Posted this on another forum aswell.
I did a search, and it seems like other people have had similar problems to mine, but under heavy accel, and under boost my hicas light will flicker and steering will go a little off center. Power steering and all other fluids look fine, i thought this was it, but i got into my car and my turbo timer wouldnt turn on, checked all connections and they seemed fine, when i hit boost and the hicas light flickered again the turbo timer magically turned on again. Two seperate problems or one related? Has anyone been able to fix their hicas problems before? Without buying a lockbar and cancelling it out? |

my hicas used to do weird things to me as well once I hit 80 km/h. the steering wheel would turn a good 40 degrees just to keep the car straight. I was pretty much crab walking down the highway. for a while I kept checking everything out and still hadn't found a solution. eventually I just installed a Tomei hicas lock kit and was done with it.
my advice would be to lock up the hicas and not spend hours trying to find out what the problem is. what kind of turbo timer do you have?

had something like that in my old car, but my situation was the turbo timer was stuck in count down mode! so the car wouldnt ever shut off !!! lol .. no joke. had to stall it by removing the air filters and putting both hands over the intake pipes.
hicas is so dangerous.. it always acts up.. unless your car is really near stock condition, i would remove hicas as quick as u can.

Yeah, its pulled me a few feet to the left and right a few times because of this, and under heavy boost i can see it being quite dangerous.
the turbo timer i have is an HKS Turbo Timer IV. |

Having similiar issues here. That Driftworks complete kit looks like the way to go. Has anyone installed the Driftworks kit?
I will most likely order unless i hear about bad experiences with Driftworks. |

HICAS light lighting up might mean someone earthed turbo timer off ignition barrel. It would explain the weird behaviour of the turbo timer, as earthing it that way can damage the turbo timer. HICAS light could also mean alternator is on the way out or power is interrupted by something, as HICAS, electrics playup. Or low fluid in powersteering resouvoir (but you have checked that). Also HICAS ECU looks at steering angle sensor behind steering wheel (HICAS can play up if you don't have correct HICAS boss kit for aftermarket steering wheel) and speed of car (check speedo cable).
My money is on the turbo timer that is wired incorrectly and is causing problems. Find a wiring diagram / manual for install of turbo timer and check wiring to turbo timer.

yeahh. some of the wiring jobs under my dash look pretty shady, and my speedo cable might be a little off, my speedo needle is fluid in motion up to 120, then it jumps by 20's. weird clicking noise around 120 also, im thinking about switching my cluster so i'll have to check up on that while i'm at it. my steering wheel is aftermarket but im sure it's all hicas compatible. so i guess its either the wiring or speedo. thanks for the help guys, weirdly enough my hicas light hasnt flickered at all this week, but my turbo timer rarely works. maybe ill just scrap the one i have and look into a newer one.
i'll let you know what happens! |

The speedo jumping is in direct result to a worn our cable. all you need to do is replace it with a new one as it is a full mechanical unit driven from the transmission.

would the jumping be consistent no matter what speed? it only seems to jump once i hit close to 120 then jumps upwards and back down once i slow down again, until around 100 when it becomes fluid again |

For those that are having the 80km/h problem, does your wheel straighten back out once you drop back down below 80 ? Mine does the same thing but when I slow down below 80 the steering wheel goes straight again.
