Default Custom Oil Cooler & Relocation Kits

Here's some info for those interested:

What's the MOST Important Part to aquire first when planing a Custom Oil Cooler & Filter Relocation Setup ?
- Thermostat. Choose between INLINE or PLATE styles. This will dictate what style of cooler you build (ie. 5 line or 4 line). Oil MUST be warm long before it can be cooled. Don't build a Cooler setup without a thermostat.

Your thermostat choice will dictate building one of the following kits:

NEXT, for a 5 line kit you will need BLOCK AND FILTER MOUNT:

For a 4 line kit you will only need a BLOCK MOUNT:
(Because the Filter Mount is also the thermostat plate)

Once you have chosen a style and have:
- Thermostat (either inline or plate)
- Block Plate (3/4-16 for RB26/GTR engine block)
- Filter Mount (if needed, as 4 line system has filter mount built into thermostat plate)

You can simply finish with:
- Oil Cooler (rows, size etc. as per your needs)
- Fittings, Lines etc. to accomodate your placement.
- Oil Filter based on the relocation mount threads (may not end up as Nissan filter, but not important).

Just ensure that everything you choose can flow 20 GPM as to not create any restrictions and all will be OK. Also try to use AN10 fittings and 1/2" INSIDE DIAMETER Oil Lines to keep the flow of oil happy.

If budget dictates using regular Oil Line with hose clamps, do not be afraid. People have been doing it for decades and it works. Don't think that YOU NEED AN fittings and Braided lines to be cool. Propper rubber lines that are rated for Oil will work just fine. Goodyear produces standard line that is 300 PSI rated and 1/2" ID that will work just fine with clamps and barbs.

That's pretty much IT in a nutshell.

FYI
To those people that already own this simple Greddy Relocation Kit.....

...all is not lost. This kit can be turned into a very nice cooler setup with a couple of additional items only.

If you own this kit, simply purchase:
- More Oil Line and fittings.
- Cooler of your choosing (specs, rows as per your aplication/needs)
- MOST IMPORTANT - Inline Thermostat.

This turns your simple Greddy Relocation kit into a kick-ass 5-Line Oil Cooler Setup just like the examples above.

Here is a US Seller on Ebay that does nothing but Relocation and Cooling Custom parts and kits:

TMVTAYLOR - http://motors.shop.ebay.com/tmvtaylor/m.html

I have been in contact with this seller through Email and he is very helpful and knows his stuff.

Everything he uses are brands like Dana, Hayden, Permacool and other North American-Made brands. Basically, all top quality stuff.

You can easilly find EVERYTHING you need from him to make your own custom cooler/relocation setup.

Good info.

Another way to save on buying 2x fittings, is to buy a thermostat sandwich plate and mount on top of remote sandwich plate that comes with Greedy /Trust oil filter relocation kit. This has been done in the UK (GTROC forum) with Mocal parts and is where I saw this setup.

I would recommend oilcooler core with reinforcing around core for competition use due to chassis twisting when cornering that can twist core, create end tank leaks. Also fitting rubber mounts on core brackets (brackets are optional part for Setrab oilcooler core that reinforces oilcooler core) to mounts helps to reduce this twisting. Setrab oilcooler core is one oilcooler core that can be purchased outside Japan with bracing around oilcooler core. It ain't cheap, but you pay for quality.

Oilcooler core size is based on hp engine produces and oilpump used (stock, N1, JUN, etc ) and application. Only Setrab discloses this info that I know of on the internet or can help by phone and is another reason why I recommend their oilcooler cores.

See the hp rating for core size, etc on page 2 -

http://www.setrabusa.com/pdf/ProLine-Dims-Apps.pdf

I found a easier to understand (at least for me it was) version of this graph on internet, but lost the link to it.

Setrab USA -

http://www.setrabusa.com/oilcoolers.htm

If high hp RB26 engine (1000hp) and big size oilcooler core can't be fitted, can run 2x Setrab oilcooler cores rated at 500hp each inside each guard. You'll probably see this setup on some high hp GTR's and smaller cores x 2 on some drift cars in Japan.

This is info on Setrab oilcooler core construction -

Plate on Plate = gay

I know the extra fittings and lines are a pain, but plate-on-plate looks too 'Mickey Moused'.....

It does look strange.

Here's an example of 2 x 25 row Setrab oilcooler cores on a 552 rwhp R32GTR -
