Just ordered a set of wheels today - I wasn't planning on it but a deal came up I couldn't say no to.

Anyways, I need some rubber for them and I'm not sure what size I should go for.

I know mcfly will say 295/30 but they are probably a bit excessive and expensive for me at this point.

How much would 275/35 be stretched? Should I step up to 285/35?

Not planning on slamming the car, but I have coilovers and will pull/roll a bit if I need to.

Thanks

EDIT: wheels just came in today, and as promised I'm posting some pics

Sorry for bad quality, and I'll get some more once I get rubber mounted (still undecided)

Also I only had a chance to test fit the rear one

Sticks out a lot lol (car is in the air)

10.5 sure is wide :D

I'm strongly considering a 265/35 just for fitments sake.. I think a 275 up front might require some "work"

ive run 235s on 10" rim. Should be fine with 275s

In case anyone was wondering

Excited ;)

In that case, I had 235s on 10" SBC RPF1s and it looked really good. So I know from personal experience that 275s will look good ;)

thanks kyle I was worried that 275 would be too small lol.

235 must have been stretched like mad though

Honestly I say its your call on the tire size. Check your clearance on fenders or find similar setups before you buy tires.

But to be honest, I'd rather spend the money on good 275s than the cheapest 295/305 etc.

A 275 should be almost square on a 10.5 inch rim.

I found you an example -

This is an 18x10.5 wheel, with a 275/35/18 NT01.

I am running a 255/35/18 on my 10.5 rim.. offset of +15 as well

It does not look stretch at all..

to compare tire widths you need to consult the manufactures physical measurement charts. No tires are the same.

I'm excited to see more guys going and running 10.5's on the bnr32's. 295's are not the most practical tire for a r32 fender well. 295's should be dead flush on your typical 10.5 inch rim. There is half an inch top account for on each bead seat so a 10.5 will measure out as an 11.5 rim.

Ex. 295mm divided by 25.4 = 11.6"
kuhmo spt's im running right now are measured at 11.4" tread width so they have the faintest slant. Tire selection for fit is a huge deal.

thanks mcfly you have a good point, how is the ride on 30 series? I'm afraid of calgary potholes

I would go with a 275 / 85 30 series, so what kind of rubber are you going to mount on them?

BTW nice rim choice ... a good tough wheel

thanks I'm just worried a 30 series will be to small for the shitty roads here, don't wanna bend a rim.

As for tire choice it's pretty much the best deal I can find for decent tires. Don't wanna spend over $1000

Check out Kumho's , Ive had good luck with them for the last few years ... they are priced well

I find with our camber and alignment setting tires don't last long at all.

I run my 10.5's on the street which means soft tires were a complete waste of money. I don't road race with my car, if you were to do some lapping that might affect your tire choice.

This spreadsheet paired with manufacture size charts and you should find something well suited size wise though.

Your tires only lasted a few 1000 kms did they not?

mcfly
03-13-2010, 04:17 PM
about 1800 due to the toe and camber

fronts did 3200

I knew it was something pretty quick.

Kras
03-13-2010, 06:04 PM
thats horrible mcfly what were your alignment settings lol

I'm debating 30 or 35 series.... INPUT?! :)

it seems like the 30 series for some reason has a wider tread and section width - which is great, but I'm worried about the roads here and the possibility of rolling the baby sidewall and running metal on asphalt heh

Mcfly ran his car in Edmonton and the roads are way worse than the ones in Calgary.

Kras

I think I've narrowed it down to a few different tires:

Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport - 275/35R18
Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 - 275/35R18 OR 285/35R18 OR 285/30R18
Kumho Ecsta SPT - 275/35R18

They all end up being around the same price, the Hankooks in 275 are the cheapest and the Bridgestones are the most expensive. Not much of a difference in price though like $100 tops.

Now be careful listening to Brianv8's post on gtrc. 275's are square on 10" rims, this is what he has I bet. Typically people take a ruler and measure the rim lip to lip not realizing how stupid they really are.

the kuhmo will stetch at 10.9" on 11.5 inch total rim width
same with the hankook which is also at 10.9
and also same with brigstone with 10.9

for 275's anyways. Ideally the 275's will fit a lot easier.

Kras
03-14-2010, 10:08 AM
yea I realize the 275's will be a little stretched, a little is not a big deal... I'm certainly not planning on running a 245/40 like that douche on GTRC recommended (not that there's anything wrong with that ;))

Kras
03-14-2010, 10:10 AM
mcfly you still haven't commented on the 30 vs 35

mcfly
03-14-2010, 10:19 AM
my personal feeling is 275/35 is too big of a sidewall

Kras
03-14-2010, 10:23 AM
don't you worry about destroying your wheels with potholes etc

Zacho
03-14-2010, 10:46 AM
I've found you learn to dodge them for the most part. And I figure if you hit a big enough pot hole to ruin a rim with a 30, it more than likely will with a 35 sidewall too.

275/30 if it was I.

rb-racer
03-14-2010, 11:46 AM
The 7mm difference in sidewall will not be enough difference to make or break the pot hole situation.

Take a look at the overall diameters of the tire sizes. that can also be a good way to select tires, some have a bit more sidewall then others.

285 ... 285 ... 285 ... or 295 ;)

275 / 30's ugly, I use them for winter tires on my 18 x 9.5's.

Onlinetires.com has better prices than tire rack, check them out.

mcfly
03-19-2010, 08:40 PM
In all honesty I would not go with 295's again on an r32.

That's taken from a angle with my jacked up fitment.. so it somewhat stretches a bit but in person it barely pokes out..

I wouldn't go anything less then a 275 on a 10.5 but I suppose stretch is personal preference.

Terrh
03-27-2010, 02:00 PM
well I'm thinking about either going 275's on all 4 (I'm assuming that 275's will fit reasonably out front since 255's fit with like an inch to spare) or 275's up front and 315's in the rear.

I wanted to go 295 or 305 on all 4 but it's hard to find them in 17"... 275's and 315's however are common and easy to find. 275/35 and 315/30 are identical diameters too.

Beardo

265/35 is way to narrow for a 10.5. I had them on my Rays 10.5 and I have them on my CCW's now. Too narrow. I want to get some 285 for my nex tires.

So Kras, what did you end up with?

Hey mcfly, do you have any sidewall pics of your 295s? And you said they don't fit? They rub on the frame rail? Fender? Shock? Thanks!

Ps, I've got 18x10.5 +11 ccw classics.

mcfly
04-07-2010, 09:34 PM
on the front with +15 i have about 4/5 mm of clearance between the tire and the upper control arm knuckle.

I need to stretch the front fenders.
i will get a picture of sidewall

So Kras, what did you end up with?

Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec 265/35

The main reasons I went 265 over 275 in the star specs is

265 is 4 lbs lighter than the 275 somehow
smaller rolling diameter
star specs run wide apparently

I'm mounting them onto the rims this saturday so I'll report back

mcfly
04-08-2010, 07:12 AM
it will have an inch total stretch on your rims, section width is 10.7" measured on a 9.5

Kras

I don't mind a bit of stretch

I agree mcfly, that 265 dz101 looks shitty on that 10.5 rpf1, IMO it has a lot to do with the tire

charles620
04-09-2010, 02:20 PM
good pic, i was going to get some 265 DZ101 on my 11j, they look narrow. I guess I can step up to 275 if my fender clears!

PS: Evo with Nismo is epic.
