View Full Version : Greddy speedo showing half of mechanical speedo

Okay so I recently installed my greddy full auto turbo timer II in my gtr and I hooked up the wire to the speed sensor on my ecu but when I tried it out tonight for the first time it was showing exactly half the speed as what my mechanical speedo was saying.
Did I tap the wrong speed sensor wire? Is there even more than one speed sensor wire coming out of the ecu?
Thanks.

any internal settings in the turbo timer for setup.
might as well ask

other than changing it from kph to mph, no.
and yes i have it in kph...

wait, i did some googling and it looks like i might have to calibrate it.
Speedometer Setup Mode:
This feature allow the user to set the Turbo Timer speedometer to match the vehicle's speedometer.
(1)While in Speed Mode, press the P+S button to go to Speedometer Setup mode.
(2)Get the vehicle speed up to 40km/h. Press the T buttonto set the speed.
(3) When the setup is complete, 40km/h will display.
I will give an update later if this works.

well i did some testing and no go. still displays exactly half of what the vehicle is actually travelling at and there is no calibration option on the turbo timer unit. after looking at the ECCS pin layout it looks like I tapped into the vehicle speed sensor (pin 53) and not the tachometer speed signal (pin 7). I will try this other wire out and see if it works.

bad news.
I tried out pin 7 on the ecu which should be the tachometer speed sensor but it didn't give me anything.
does the r32 have some sort of speed signal wire other than the vehicle speed sensor (pin 53)?

As far as I know, just wire 53. Have you got some kind of manual speed limiter cut off installed? If you did it would stop the signal. Has the ecu been retuned and had the limiters modified, that might have an affect

nope the ECU is oem and I have a switch wired in to 53 just in case I ever need to go above 190km/h but it's normally off (or on in this case).
I think I might just leave it for now. it'll show half the speed still but atleast the timer still calculates the right cool down time.

the switch is most likely the issue. My AVCR used to always mess up its speed reading when I had my switch the wrong way when I had a switch wired to #53.
Flip the switch the other way and try again

Never cut/switch wire 53, it just messes up your other speed related systems.

i think it would only mess it up once the switch is flipped. there shouldn't be enough change in resistance from the wire and switch to mess up the other systems and make it read exactly (and I mean exactly) half the speed i'm traveling.

the switch is flipped the way it's supposed to be with the speed limiter set to on.

we're just trying to help man. Thats my experiences with tampering with the wire 53. Good luck figuring it out then man

Do turbo timers kill the engine if it detects vehicle motion or something?

yes the greddy one does.
