In order to swap a r34 6 speed getrag into your bnr32 you will need;
R34 Getrag Box
R34 Pull Clutch/Flywheel or any aftermarket r34 clutch and flywheel
R34 Front Prop
R34 Front half of rear prop and rear half or bnr32 prop
R34 Shifter
R34 gear box cross member+mount modified to fit r32 chassis or a custom bracket made to fit using r34 transmission mount.
To keep the mechanical speedo the BNR32 has you take the speedo pickup in the bnr32 transfer case and transfer it into the hole on the r34 transfer case. You cannot swap transfer cases because they have a different bolt pattern.
Keeping the 4.111's makes for a fun drive, I suggest leaving them in there.

Thanks again for this. I would love to do this when the time comes.

One thing at a time, get the car first lol. Honestly I have no beef with the R32 5 speed, the gearing is really good. Its just my synchros are shot and 3rd gear wont like 600hp much.

hehe, most of my spare time is spent here, gtrc, and thinking about allll the mods im going to do to the car when it comes. I have my paychecks for the next 10 years planned out already. :)

Any idea of Top Speed in a BNR32 with the Getrag + 4.11's ? (compared to the 5 speed that is...as I don't know the gear ratios off hand).
Are both 5th and 6th overdriven in the Getrag, with 4th as 1:1 ? or is 5th 1:1 in the Getrag ? ....with 1st being a 'tractor' type gear......lol

1st in the getrag is steep, gets you off the line fast.
5th is 1:1
with stock 225/50/16 you will do 182 mph in 6th, 5 speed box would do 191 in the same fashion. 8k rpm.
getrag ratios
1st 3.827
2nd 2.360
3rd 1.685
4th 1.312
5th 1.000
6th 0.793
r32/33
1st 3.214
2nd 1.925
3rd 1.302
4th 1.000

What would the overall cost for something like this be? It sounds very ineresting and will be seriously considered when the time comes for me to step up to the GTR plate.

likely about 8g

That's not unreasonable. The other day I was told that if you need to do any work on the internal's of a getrag gear box it requires puting the box in an oven to open it up,any truth to this?

for that price your MUCH better to get a high end gearset for the R32 box. Getrags are stout, but not indestructible. GTR's break a hell of lot more of them than supras, but its no surprise, AWD breaks shit.

I once had a theory that the transfer case put torsional stresses on the case and that is why we break boxes. Because is really is essentially a v160 gear set with a different case.
But the only 6 speeds we can get for a r32 are dog boxes.

What typically lets go on the R34 getrag, and when?

thats possible, but my guess is its more to do with the awd. I mean at crazy high torque levels the supras are gonna be breaking the rear tires loose while the gtr will end up putting a lot more strain on the box under the same conditions.
Personally I love the stock R32 GTR ratios for circuit use. A getrag with the stock R32 4.11's would really get ya going quick. I've been thinking about what to do for my build tranny wise for ages and I still cant seem to make a decision.

hey, im also wondering...
what about doing a complete R34 RB26DETT + R34 Getrag box into an R32?...
what would be required to put both in? cause it may be cost effective to buy a engine and tranny in one shot from a dealer!.. then you would get the front shafts, etc.. mcfly any list kicking around of whats needed other than the 2 big lumps?
heres what i would assume to be needed...
R34 wiring loom + Ecu
R34 front half of rear prop shaft
R32 rear half of rear prop shaft
what else?

lol, you obviously haven't looked into the cost from a dealer :D

Which route would you (mcfly) recommend for a transmission upgrade? I recently blew up third gear in my stock GTR transmission. I was thinking of going with the OSG 1-5 close ration set with the forged input shaft and re-inforced center plate. My car has a built 2.6 and a t04z with all the supporting mods. Im guessing im sitting around 375whp from my trap speed and 1/4mile @ 8psi.

Nice....
I am in the same boat (not power-wise...lol) looking for a Transmission upgrade route to take.
For simplicity sake, I might just say screw it and go with an OSG Kit, like you mentioned above, but would really like to hold out for a Getrag if I can get one out of Japan that is going to be cost effective enough, with all the parts required for the swap......that's going to be the kicker - Getting one here.

What broke exactly?
Do you have a picture of the gearset. There is a chance you don't need anything more then standard but you can pick apart a failure from pictures.

How big a job was this and have you considered playing with the ratios to get a higher top end speed for the track? I have access to a r34 gearbox and my box is starting to show signs of death.

I never did it just drove one with it done.
The car is a blast to drive with 4.111's. Why would you want a higher top end speed exactly?

Theres a really good ap called gearcalc, free download.
You can just punch in tires, final ratio, gears, rpm and it will calculate rpm drop between gears, top speed, top speed in each gear etc:
the getrac box is ok, but first gear is a bit of a waste of time, second gear is close to the os 1st...

My thoughts exactly.......
with my setup that 3.9 to 1 1st gear would be retardedly low, as it is I can't make full boost in 1st because there isn't enough load on the motor.
I would actually like to have R34 gears (3.55 I think) in my car to give it more boost out of the hole and carry 3rd gear through the traps on the strip.

Thanks, I hadn't seen this thread. A shame, it does look the job! Is it specific to any air shifter or are there some that do downshifts?
