Taken from (post#177): http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/N1-Oil-Pump-Epic-Fail-t283867.html&st=160

From adv search across 19 international forums over the last 2 weeks, each case is unique in description and username and date range.
--------------------------------------------
23% - Standard RB pump on short pump drive

6% - Standard RB pump on full pump drive

68% - N1 pump (not specified which diameter) -

3% - Greddy, HKS and Jun

1% - Tomei – only 2 cases found
--------------------------------------------

5% and less can easily be chalked up to build issues/ballance "external factors" in my opinion,

Use it, don’t use it… but it definatly isnt 50/50... Obviously sales volume also would dictate the above, that said I would guess

there are just as many if not more stock pump w/ full pump drives running around as there are N1's.

Obviously this can't be considered 'The RB Oil Pump Bible', but it's good reading info none the less.
Allan.

One oddity is the fact that thre are NO documented cases of broken:
- Reinik/Reimax Pumps
- Nismo RB Pumps (Reinik designed Gears)
.......that I could find anyways.

Another bit of info.....on Gear Materials.

Greddy, Jun, Tomei = SCM435 Pump Gears.

Reinik/Reimax, Nismo = SCM430H Pump Gears.

maybe because next to no one uses them :p

Im interesting in finding out who broke jun pumps.
The single case I know of was on kismetcaptains rb26 but there was some abuse with a sledge from what I remember.

435 is ideal in my head from a metallurgy standpoint. tough enough to withstand wear and tear while not being high enough carbon to really be brittle.
430 seems somewhat soft, maybe it does work though.

I guess my point was, since Reinik seem to have the most pump history (thanks to Group A, N etc.) with RB's, who don't more people use Nismo ? (since Reinik made the gears for them anyways)

I am going another route....once again.

I am going to send an OEM pump to Reinik to have 'worked' on.

$775 USD, I send my OEM pump, RHDjapan deals with them.

They machine the housing, install an upgraded 12mm (from 11mm) gear set, reinforcement plate, then send back to you.

Group A technology is good enough for me.

This is ofcourse different from their 'off the shelf' 11mm Gear Upgrade 'Customer Change' set available for $600-ish USD through RHDjapan as well.

This ofcourse all depends on what price RHDjapan put on the actuall Reinik Pump, as I emailed them asking to add it to their store.

Stay tuned for more info, I guess........

I think we are all getting scared into buying Tomei Pumps @ nearly $1500 USD to protect our investments, when there are suitable 'alternatives' out there.

Hell, the quickest R32 GTR in Canada (sr20gt30r's Car @ 9.96/140mph) runs an N1 pump....lol (who knows for how much longer, but he says 2 years now).....
GTRPWR Forums

On pure principal, I can not blindly buy a Tomei without looking into others...

Good info.

Nissan used a tuning trick on the stock RB25DET knock ignition map in the higher load zones and it actually stops engine reving (ignition timing is 0 in those cells). Maybe reducing ignition timing to 0 just after peak hp and reducing fuel to match could limit engine without hitting revlimiter???

I think the only way you would hear about Renik oilpump failures, is in Group-A racecars, where engines are pushed to the limits lap after lap.

Well, shit.....that's easy....lol

The GTR's always won, so, case closed ;) Reinik Pumps are King !

I think Nismo use SMC435 (from HyperREv book! :- )

I would argue that the group a engines didn't even use an oem oil pump case.
Among that they likely never saw rev limiter so that right there would solve most of the problem.

I honestly don't believe any of the aftermarket pumps are worse then the other.

I'm not a believer

NITTO RB SERIES HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP

The NITTO RB series high volume oil pump is a high quality and performance aftermarket oil pump that will suit Nissan RB20, RB25, RB26 and RB30 engines. Oil flow and pressure is dramatically increased over that of the factory oil pump which is critical in modified engines for reliability of the lubrication system. Failure of this system is the “achilles heel” of the Nissan RB series engine even on lightly tuned examples and accounts for a high percentage of engine failures.

Factory and factory based oil pumps are highly prone to oil pump gear failure in modified engines due to the quality of the cheaper mass produced material used for the manufacture of the gears. Oil pump gear failure will result in indefinite engine damage. For this reason EN26 ball bearing steel is utilised for the manufacture of NITTO RB series high volume oil pump gears which are superior in strength and durability to that of both factory and its competitor’s oil pump gears.

NITTO RB series oil pumps are supplied pre-inspected, blue printed, assembled and cleaned to enable direct installation strait onto your engine and assure total confidence.
