Noooope. It's a fiberglass knock off.

Thought the curb/driveway into a shopping complex was ok. I've gone over it before but I think some of the bricks settled out (it was like a red brick driveway), created a dip, and it only took the corner of one brick to hook onto the lip and tear it apart.

Fixed the loose ebrake handle (the bracket is actually broken in one spot, so the rear bolt is doing nothing with regards to holding it on there). Tightened ebrake cable. Realigned the center console and trim. Took out the stupid freaking LED turn signal and got a new one. Scheduled a possible time for my suspension to be adjusted on a friends lift. Last night I removed my failing boost controller after seeing a wonderful 18psi on my boost gauge.

Just need to get the new rebar in there, fuel pump this weekend (finally, I've been putting it off with exams and the such). I would have done the pump today but didn't want to stink like gas before my interview, or worse run into issues and not have a car to take out there!

This stuff is insane. I swear every early to late 90's model import transmission feels way better after going to this fluid.

This week I have worked on the little things. Fixed my dome light, changed out the door/courtesy lights as well as the map lights. I had to take apart the dome light and clean the contacts for the switch so it would work all the time.

off topic but today I saw a 240 on the side of the highway and pulled over to lend a hand(I have a full set of tools+tons of hoses/clamps+low pro mini jack in my car always) and I asked if he needed a hand. He brought me around the front of the car and like a 3 by 3 inch hole was in his block. I suppose stock bottom end and a sc6262 don't mix LOL.

Zacho

There is essentially a ball on the end of the lever for the switch that rolls over 3 copper poles (off, door on, always on) and I just wire brushed the poles and some very fine grit sandpaper on the ball and it is perfect now. Used to very rarely come on and I just assumed the whole thing needed to be replaced, so I think it's worth checking out.

Ran at an autocross event today, only 18 cars so lots of runs were had by all. Got schooled by a rabid pack of boosted Miatas - they always hunt in groups...300HP + R compounds + 2000lb car + good driver = watch out! Some of them were real monsters! Came away with 3 things I need to do: 1) Get rid of the frickin' HICAS! 2) Get better tires - they got greasier as the day wore on and combined with HICAS = slots of sliding. 3) Seat time - need lots more.

Well it wasn't today but over the last week I replaced the timing belt ,water pump, cam seals & crank seal. got it put completely back together yesterday , took it for a 70km drive last night & all is good.

my tip for timing belt install is "zap straps/zip ties".

I was having a bitch of a time getting the belt to stay in place as I put it onto the gears & through the pulley's. Then it dawned on me to zap strap the t-belt onto the exhaust side cam gear to hold it in place then work my way around idler pulley , crank gear , tensioner pulley & finally over the intake cam gear. Then cut off the zap strap & proceed with getting the belt to the correct tension. Definitely made it easier by locking the belt in place this way.

Maybe this is common knowledge but it doesn't suggest anything like this in the FSM.

BTW anyone know what this #23 I found painted underneath my water pump means?

I am now controlling boost via my profec solenoid in conjunction with my ECU. Check out the curve differences.

Before I was experiencing a "lazy" wastegate. My Tial has a .9 bar spring but it started to lift open a little at .7 ish bar. So I have my solenoid setup to apply pressure to the top port of the wastegate until my target boost is reached, this pressure keeps the valve closed longer and gives me quicker spool up.

Look at the BLACK line for pressure

Curve with only the wastegate spring -

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c228/thecordillera/lazy.jpg

Curve with solenoid controlled by ECU. Aside from the initial spike, this curve is much better. Lower duty cycle on the solenoid just before my target boost should solve this. Ignore the shitty a/f curve if you will...forgot to save my fuel map changes before the pull. Result = 10.9 in boost

http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c228/thecordillera/spike.jpg

I'm a complete idiot:o
I've been chasing an oil leak for awhile now. I thought it was my rear main seal so pulled the trans and replaced it... FAIL! It wasn't that!
We even looked at the back of the engine while we had the trans out and couldn't see any evidence any where else.
All evidence pointed to that but no.
Someone had told me that if I had changed my valve cover gaskets and grommets that they have to be retightened after a few heat cycles and they did. Didn't help.
So the other day I was having a good look over things and noticed that some dust had collected on some oil on the coolant line bracket that's behind the rear turbo. So I figured it might be the rear cam seals.
Ordered new ones and was taking things all apart and thats when I noticed it.
When I had put the new cam cover seal in the turbo side I hadn't pushed it all the way in the groove and when tightening it down the seal got twisted.
So much time, energy and a little bit of money because of one oversight.
The best part is the car is mechanically perfect now, everything works EXCEPT that stupid iacv. It can wait until the winter.

finished installing the replacement rear diff today, but when taking it out for a test drive i get some noticeable vibration at 60km/h and at 100km/h+. i'll have to rotate the driveshaft 180 degrees or something.

Zacho
07-01-2010, 11:32 PM
Make sure your driveshaft bolts are all the same length/type. Not kidding either. I Chased down a vibration in a friends S14 forever...turned out when he put the driveshaft back in he grabbed the nearest bolts that were "close" in length. After, no vibration.

Today I threw my turbonetics wastegate in the trash. This thing was terrible. My ebay wastegate I used to mock my exhaust up was better than this...

I could apply 14-18 psi through the side port of the wastegate and a good 50-60% of it would blow out into the gate and not push on the diaphragm. The valve opened half way most of the time. Result ---> boost creeping exponentially with rpm. It had 2500km on it...local boosted 350z guys said they had the same problem.

Well, maybe not broke, but certainly not running right after the track day. Really hesitating at low rpm, gonna try an open her up this weekend and see what I can see. Hopefully just fouled the plugs (fingers crossed). Once the rpm get up a bit (4k+)its fine, boosts good, also starts and idles fine.

Tonight.

Put front of car on wheel ramps , removed shift lever tunnel boot, unbolted trans cross member , lowered trans a bit to gain access to reverse check/ lock out asmb , removed said part ( spring broken ) , took apart & replaced reverse check/ lock out spring .

Put all back together & checked if I could select reverse . I now have reverse again.

Then drained the gearbox oil & replaced with redline MT90.

I was just given her a good shot up a hill on the way to work Saturday night and when I hit the red line (8500), it made that very expensive knocking sound. I was a liter low and basically ran her out of oil. No one's fault but my own. I have issues with the engine build shop that did the work and couldn't get them resolved. For the huge money spent on it the shop should have fixed them fast and for free. Still one liter isn't much to be low but it is a great long engine and you need lots of oil when you hit the red line. I swear the engine needs 7 or 8 liters just to keep it together. When I can afford it I'll put the pan extension on or mount a 45 gal drum under it for an oil reservoir.

DrMango

going up a hill and redlining the car with a liter low of oil is a bad combo lol. The bearing you spun on the front of the engine?

If you are going to weld it youself make sure you familiarize yourself with the different grades, filler rods and welding procedures.

I don't know which one it is but the way I drive the car (like I stole it) I really need to pull the engine and have the bottom end rebuilt. I am sure I damaged the crank or rod so it won't be a quick fix. With all the cars I've built over the years I'm sure the crank will need somework and check the rod clearances. I just need to find someone to pull it and do the bottom end for me. I'm getting tired of pulling engines and fixing them. I seem to be loosing the desire to do the big involved stuff any more. To much on my plate for the last 3 - 4 years. My days are so long, I'm out of hours in the day and seriously into my sleep time, every day of the week, all year round. Look for a small hole under the door handle near the rear of the door handle insert. The person who broke into mine must have used a small diameter screw driver and forced it into the seam between the door skin and the door handle insert. then lifted the rods inside the door to unlock it. I have since made a metal plate to prevent that from happening again.

Hey just thought I'd post this link to an engine shop in the lower mainland.
Now I've never used them on a personal car , but I used to work for weissach performance/vancouver lamborghini/vancouver lotus & we sent stuff to them from time to time when it was a different or high demand type build. Never had a car come back with engine issues after one of there rebuilds. You might want to check them out for yourself.

Wiring in PFC, Datalogit, Innovate w/b (going in the drivers side lower vent) and PFC boost controller. STILL diagnosing high idle, pretty sure it's the IACV (the impossible one to get to).

Removing charcoal canister and replumbing boost lines and pulling out the crankcase vent lines for an oil catch can.
