Is anyone here planning on buying the Nissan/Akebono 370z Sport Big Brake Upgrade kit for their Skylines ?

I had planned to buy the entire Front and Rear Kit, but have decided to just buy the Fronts and run Adapters in the rear from Global-Z so that I can do the rears for about 1/3 the price or so.

Here are the rear adapters:
http://www.global-z.com/nissan_sumitomo_r350/nissan_350.html

http://www.global-z.com/nissan_sumitomo_r350/sumitomo_350.jpg

Essentially, these adapters allow the fitment of the same 350mm Rear Rotors that are used in the Akebono Rear Brake Kit, but allow you to use them with your OEM 2 Pot Calipers, rather than buying the Akebono 2pot Calipers.

Let's face it, Rear Brakes are gratuitous at best, in most people's eyes and most do not even bother with them. I figure this is a great solution that can be done for quite a bit cheaper than an entire Rear brake swap for the Akebono kit and will keep the rears looking DECENT when you mount that big-ass 355mm Akebono Kit on the Front of the car.

Here's the deal:
----------------

Part 1.....
I figure I will end up paying about $600 or so for the Adapter by the time they get here from Global-Z, also depending on WHO can get them for me and their markup. Global-Z lists them for 39,900.00 JPY = 465.000 CAD + Shipping. With Reseller markup, Shipping, Customs etc, I figure $600 CAD is a fair assesment.

Part 2......
I am planning on having the brackets copied at one of the Engineering Shops that I deal with, on their Waterjet, using Tool Steel. I am hoping that they will not cost any more than $250 CAD/set to have done and ready as a kit to bolt-on (with bolts etc included).....including having a master pattern/file made up (which I will own).

Regardless, I will sell them for $100-$150 OVER COST to anyone who is interested, which could save you about $200-$250 I believe, over what Global-Z is selling them for......to help me recover some costs and help out the community, or anyone else that wants to go the same route, in the process.

The Rotors required are REAR 350mm x 20mm Nissan/Infiniti OEM from:
- FX50
- 370z Sport
- G37 Sport
They sell for approximately $100/each CAD ($200 Total).....you buy your own.

I am hoping that in the end, this kit will be roughly a $600-$650 CAD (Rotors included) Rear 350mm Big Brake Upgrade vs the $1375 USD Complete Rears from Concept-Z, which include other Rear Calipers. In this case, you will simply re-use your OEM Calipers, as they fit quite well as you can see from the pic and caliper/rotor coverage is still EXCELLENT.

Would anyone be interested in getting onboard with this if I get the adapters made up ?

Using this Rear Kit described above, I will combine it with THIS Front kit @ $1275 USD + Shipping:
http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=3218&Car_Type=300

As a comparison, the COMPLETE Front and Rear Kit is $2400 USD + Shipping:

The Rear Only Kit is $1300 USD + Shipping
http://www.conceptzperformance.com/Cart/description.php?II=3369&Car_Type=300

Using my proposed Adapter based Rear Kit should cost about $600-ish CAD + Shipping.
..including what you will pay for your Rotors @ Approx $200/set, then adapter @ $400 hopefully.
(price may fluctuate a bit, but will be confirmed BEFORE any money is taken)

$400-ish CAD paid to me, for Bracket Kit (will finalize price BEFORE start of Group Buy).
$200-ish CAD for rear OEM rotors, that you will purchase yourself (or buy upgraded rotors if desired).

Anyone interested now ?

Future Maintenance.......(for North American Availability)
....for those running the entire Front and Rear Upgrades....

You will essentially have:
- 100% 370z Sport/G37 Sport Front Brakes (Calipers, Pads, Rotors, Lines)
- 370z Sport/G37 Sport Rear Rotors.
- 300zx Rear Calipers, Pads, Lines.

The reason I am so atiment about going this route is 'future maintenance' on my Daily Driver and the constant availability of USDM parts......and from this, never having to worry about the availability of JDM parts for repairs etc ever again....as well as the obvious performance increase.
Like a 370z owner, you are still able to upgrade everything once you have the basics, such as better Rotors and Pads. A win/win.

Unfortunately, this will be a somewhat LONG process, as all Adapters will be Bought/Sold/Shipped during the same Group Buy, so that I don't get the shaft and have someone re-copy them and leave me holding a bunch of more expensive kits.

If you wanna get onboard, let's hear it !

Cheers,
Allan

This Rear Kit will fit: R32 GTR, R32 GTS, Z32, R33 GTS.
(Essentially everything in our world with OEM 297mm x 18mm Rear Rotors using 2pot Sumitomo Calipers)

You've got me thinking.

I am interested if other interest arise.

This is really only appealing to those who are planning on going with the Akebono 370z Front Brake upgrade, but rather than completely neglect the rears, this is the next best solution for those not interested in making the $1300 USD + Shipping investment for a complete Rear setup with Calipers.

I was prepared to spend the $2400 USD + $275 USD Shipping for a complete kit, but then got thinking as well.

$1275 USD + Shipping for Fronts, $200 worth or Rear Rotors and $600 worth of adapters for me......seems to be as far as I really want to take it at the end of the day.

Like I said, the Pad coverage using OEM Rear Calipers on 350mm Rotors is still excellent (not perfect of course) and better than what most people would do, which is upgrade the fronts and leave the backs as complete OEM....looking a little unbalanced in the process.

Contrary to what some people fight tooth-and-nail to defend, an upgraded Rotor and adapter for a smaller Caliper DOES INFACT add performance benefits and not only in regards to quicker heat dissipation......look up 'Mechanical Advantage' yourself ;)

In the end, it's a cheap solution to a usually overlooked 'thing'......

FYI, I actually have the dimension for the rear bracket before I bought my BBK. I can probably post the dimension up if I can find my drawings. Shouldn't cost too much to make if you have access to a CNC.

For the 350mm kit ?
Just to be sure, I think I will start with atleast 1 set from Global-Z so that when we get them copied, we atleast have something to compare the final products to.

I appreciate the offer though ;)

yea, it's for Z34/V36 350mm rear rotors. I borrow the bracket off frankiman on gtrc and did the drawings. lol

Another quick update:

West Covina Nissan, who many of us have dealt with before, have quoted me $150/pair USD + Shipping for Rear OEM 350mm Rotors for this application.

Just thought I would share that, as I am still waiting on the rest of the quotes for the Global-Z rear bracket kit from Japan.

I have been looking for the caliper relocation kit to utilize the 370z rotors for the fronts too on my 94 300zx but had no luck.

I know there are caliper relocation ones for the 350z rotors but none for the 370z rotors and I do not know why..

likely just because the 370z is so new. It will likely be coming soon..
