Hey guys. This has been on my mind for a while now.

I do not know anywhere that offers the kind of racing I want. Like time attack stuff. Any circuit racing. I just wanna be able to release and test myself ya know? I haven't been able to get any information on it either. I would like to take my driving to the next level and compete. Hell, I'll drive out to bc for it.

Anyone that has any information on upcoming events in bc or Alberta, let me know. Any schedules or anything.

I'm tired of driving on the street and being limited by this and that. I must blow off steam somehow. And I really want to race

i feel the same way... while there are a few auto-x,drift and drag locations/events there isnt much in the way of road courses... granted there is now targa west... and they even looked at the kootenays for some race locations there really isnt anything like that out here...

and from what i have gathered, unless some multi-millionaire with the right connections decides to build one most of us are SOL...

I'm thinking of the same thing - maybe have a look at the calgary sports car club or beyond.ca for some ideas. I think Charlie (xyce) is quite involved in the Calgary race scene, maybe send him a note?

race city... just went to the website... it doesnt give you a track layout... all i have gathered is they do some auto-x on the oval... if they have a road coarse why dont they have like a top down over head map...

or do they just have the 1/2mile oval and drag strip?

If you want to take a trip to edmonton they have lapping days at stratotech raceway.

Speedway performance used to hold them quite often but the site appears to no longer be up.

+1 for stratotech in Edmonton. I did a lapping day there, and the Allen Berg Road car race school. Its a pretty small track, built for go karts, its very technical. Never been to race city myself, but I hear the track's in horrible shape. Stratotech is a very nice facility, track rocks.

http://straightpipe.ca is where the track days are organized.

I popped in there to check it out, and found these handy links:
Facilities

I was a part of straightpipe.ca for awhile and there are a lot of circuit/auto X guys on there! Chromedragon from DW is an avid user on there and has tons of info. they even do quite abit of lake racing on the frozen lakes. check them out, most of them seem to be in the Edmonton area

You are very lucky in that Time Attack is available right in your backyard at Race City.
Go to www.cscc.ab.ca and read all about it and follow the instructions for attending the registration day on April 3rd. (You must be in attendance or have someone attend for you on April 3rd or you may not get signed up).
It's not called Time Attack but instead it's Solo I.
If you fancy Autocross, there's Solo II.
If you fancy road racing, it's there too at Race City.
Race City is a high speed 'power' track very suited to our cars. It is a blast but remember, the track will be gone in two more years according to the latest negotiations between the owner and the city who's land it is presently sitting on.
Let us know what you decide to do and good luck!
(This is from someone who trailers his car thousands of kilometers to get his track fix.)

Thanks tron I'll look into that. Sounds like alot of fun. I'd like to know what are the car restrictions? I'll sign up and ask the organizers.

Thanks for the info, I might be getting into the solo series for 2010.

It sucks, that by the time my car is Track worthy......there won't be anything local for me to partake in, in terms of Racing or Track in general.

You don't need a "track weapon" to participate in the many offerings at a race track. Use your daily driver to participate in schools, HPDEs, autocross, and even time attack. Or, put a stock engine in your car and just get out there. Sell the stock engine when you are ready to put in the built motor and carry on.
At my first ever school, there was a guy attending it in a Dodge Neon that he rented at the Tilden counter at the airport. Another school, an instructor used his tow truck because his race car broke the night before.
As they say...just do it.
By the way, that Chevy K1500 tow truck was faster around Pacific Raceways than most of the novice run group;-)

Haha nice^^

it's 1350 for 14 track days. That's not bad i think. I wish my dad hadn't sold hsi Silvia, then he could do it with me :(. But it's long gone now. That'd b nice to have someone I know there to chat with. And compete with. I saw some pics, people bring out all kids of cars. The gtr should do good if all goes well. I wanna let loose =)

I'll have to take some driving school first, that should be alright.

The full package is a heck of a deal. Even the part package prices are reasonable to excellent.
Bring your dad along for the ride-alongs in practice/open lapping. It is nice to share the events with him. I bring my 76 year old father with me to all of my events. He absolutely cannot get enough of riding shotgun all day long on a race track. I get him rides in everyone else's cars as well... he's ridden in more exotica than I care to remember!
Check out the Southern Alberta BMW car club. They put on a two day school in Calgary every May. It's the best way to learn.
See you out there, I hope! Be forewarned...it's an addiction.

Do you go in the solo sprint series?

Tron
02-17-2010, 01:42 PM
I have not participated in the Alberta Solo series mainly due to my inability to commit to the days that the competitions are held. I might get around to signing up for the weekday lapping sessions this year. I'm usually on the road prepping and supporting other racer's cars for road race competition.

Sweet, so you might be able to give me some tip then. I've never done this beore. I usually just speedy on Road, and I'll die If I do that

The best modification that any driver can do is improve the...............driver. Take some schools, get hooked, do some open lapping, go Soloing, go racing, and...... take more instruction. Instruction is the best investment one can make.
After all that, you will never again have the desire to drive fast on public roads.:D

There is http://www.sccbc.net/ which is located next to mission drag strip, it's owned by a private club but if you check out the schedule you can actually rent it out. We would need 15-20 people in total to afford it though.

I have rented the Mission road course before for a lapping day / instructional day for the Subaru club I used to hang with. We had a great time, we did half the day doing theory and driving exercises and the rest of the day was a Subaru / Porsche royal rumble lapping afternoon.

I set it up through http://www.drivingunlimited.com/index.html these guys where great, they tailored their instructions according to the drivers skill level so the first timers got to learn the basics and the advanced group got to practice high speed manoeuvres.

From what I recall the whole thing including catered lunch was about $5000. for 20-25 of us, about $250 each, but this was in 2004 (yes I’m an old bastard). Over all it was a wicked time and would do it again in a heart beat. Mission road course is a short technical track, not too much high-speed stuff but you have to be spot on and have wicked brakes, a minor mess up will put you right into a cement wall in some corners.
If you like fast tracks PIR and ORP is the place to be, long, fast and wide. But in another country booo

Thought I'd add that Spokane is also a fast track with the longest, or one of the longest straightaways in North America. Another 'power' track suited to our cars with minimal danger areas like some tracks have.

I say we get 20 + people and organize one of these this summer, I'm in though my car lacks hp compared to most of the other cars in here ( I would imagine - mine only puts out around 260hp)

GRIP
02-19-2010, 02:48 AM
Well my NA subaru did not put out too much power (maybe 200-220hp) but it was still a lot of fun, big HP cars don't have too much of an advantage on this track, light cars with durable brakes are ideal for Mission.

You have to book Mission really early in the year (around now ) to get a decent time in the summer, most of the time the larger events have booked the weekends already. We ended up doing ours on a week day but it worked out.

aldyguy

I've already contacted the booking manager, obviously I'm not gonna commit to anything until we have 20 or more drivers, but I wanna see how the process works.
