Check this out. It's an OEM ECU, Obviously Socketed, but the new chip is external in a chassis of it's own, with what looks to be a toggle switch as well ?

What in hell is this anyways ?

What ? Where ? How ? Why ? When ? Who ? .......

Cheers,
Allan

I have seen some before where there are multiple tunes, the switch switches between them. Like tuned for different setups, track / street, or tunes for different fuels... Although that link doesn't mention anything about that :S

I can imagine it being a cable that just extends the contact points on the pcb to the external box where two roms can be switched back and forth.

Yes? no? Maybe so?

might have better luck looking up "YAMAMOTO" in japan, and asking someone who speaks japanese (like adam at feast) to figure it.

If it can carry 2 tunes ans switch between them and is a regular socket tunable ECU, it might just be a worthwhile unit for someone looking for good bang-for-buck ;)

I agree, 2x 28pin EPROM chips in the box, switch to toggle between them. I would think one tune for road (knock maps on), another tune for racetrack (knock maps off).

Seen something similar on this website -

http://www.trademe.co.nz

But was done internally on a R32 ECU. Different way to do it but same result.

Tomei ECU can do something similar. So can Nistune when switching between road, racetrack. Just plug laptop up to car and upload racetrack tune to engine ECU from laptop.
