hey... title says it all...

im at the point where i need to know the best way to remove the front axle from the LSD....

i know i have to:
1) drain the fluid from the LSD making sure to undo the top plug first...
2) unbolt all those bolts...
3) then ?? i dunno?? i recall something about a circlip?

i snapped a photo of what im looking at right now...

thanks for the advice

there is a groove on the inside edge of the axle, you need to pry on it which is easier said then done. When you find the perfect angle it just pops right out.

The circlip stays in the diff

hrmm... so in the photo i posted... i remove all those nuts... then that plate comes off... and i feel around for a groove you say?...

no photos of this groove eh? so its on the axle itself then right?... ill try tomorrow and report back! thanks

no, don't remove the bolts, the groove is just in front of where the axle enters the diff case. It is a huge pain in the ass but when you get it you get it.

My engine is out of the car but that half of the shaft is still in the diff. I'll see if i can snap a pic or two for you in the morning.

I didn't think a stock GTR came with LSD in the front.
We had a hard time prying the axle out from the outside, so alternatively you can drain the diff, and take the front cover off it (theres a vent line on top of the cover as well), and then pop the axle out from the inside. Comes out easily.

you are right.. its just a differential, no LSD in mine... someday soon perhaps tho?

anyways.. thought id hook this up for the forum members:

FREEDDOOOOM!!!!... well for the drivers side front axle anyways! lol...

man, that is one tricky piece to remove, but ill post the instruction how to remove it VERY easily for everyone to see... i should thank Mcfly for the advice on this little trick

k.. so first you need to find a flat head screwdriver...then crawl under the car with a work light... and have a look on the metal part of the axle shaft close... vvery close to fhe differential housing... there is a slot/groove all the way around the circumference of it. thats where you put the screwdriver into... and you simply just turn the shaft a little and give a pry with the screw driver.. if it doesnt come out.. turn the shaft a little more... and pry pry again... and at one point in the turning.. you'll be super shocked cause the whole thing just litterally fall out!... pop! woohoo.. so easy..

this is what you;ll be looking at when you get under the car.

then... (even though this one is already out) you can really see that slot im talking about
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_sbdpR7JpqcA/S3Se_mnEoeI/AAAAAAAAAtA/IjlyjEbexvs/s912/IMG_5634.JPG

and once its out.. a small red stream will run for like 30 seconds, this stuff is pretty thick... not a big deal:

should have drained the diff beforehand. That oils looks like it got water in it as well which is bad.

Thanks for the pictures, makes explaining it a bit easier.
