Hey so Ive been having trouble with my current insurance company.
The cooperators wants me to get another appraisal done on my car before they will renue my coverage for this year. I need to know if anyone has got insurance in the last 6 months with no issues. Im looking for a place that will sign me up with just the typical inspection situation. I have no problem with an inspection but I dont want my original appraisal cut way down to make their bottom line look better if I ever have an accident

Any good companies out there?

I went straight through the cooperators office. I believe you were doing it through a broker correct?

Sherwood park has a cooperators office, never had any issues minus the time they had to register their first skyline, me :p

Choose your own appraiser, ask on beyond.ca for a good one and they will surely know some names. bc is so much nicer then ab insurance. Just go to anywhere and pay, it is nice.

I was at a cooperators office. They apparently have new rules so I think I have to stay away from cooperators all together now. I was the first Skyline cooperators insured in my area too. I dont know why they hate me now, after 5 years.

how recently were your cars insured? My issue is a new one, where new rules have come into play

I think mine is called economical mutual insurance company, they've never really given me any troubles. I don't have full coverage though, just 1 way plus fire/theft

The major factor here isnt if you had troubles when you insured your car, its if you insured it in the last 6 months with no trouble. These are new rules from what Ive been told and the people that were insured before they came into play are exempt. I need to find someone who got their car insured (ideally) in the last few months without needing an appraisal

I went through an Insurance Company called "Phoenix Insurance" They are owned by a Company called "Aviva" and are very good to me. Some call me crazy for having full coverage but I want to make sure both arses are covered. I pay below $200 a month and had no problem dealing with it for me! this is about a year and a half ago.

I gave Cooperators a call today. Darla knew nothing about needing an appraisal. She said that typically they will ask if they know it is a modified car (lol...)

Does your insurance know your car is modified?

DrMango

Yes from the original appraisal. I dont mind them knowing about the small modifications I have. They dont know about some things

I will be insured by the end of the week. I found a company in Red deer that will insure me for a good price and with my original appraisal

Thanks guys.

A bit of caution here, folks. If you have a modded car (either arrived that way or you did it yourself) and you make a claim, they CAN deny you coverage if the mods weren't declared....and mods usually mean that at some point, you needed to get an appraisal. It's like mortgage insurance....they don't fully check to see if your eligible UNTIL you file a claim; so even though they take your money for years, they reserve the right to review your file and decide your entitlement only after they get a claim (terrible time to find out and some insurance companies use this to deny payouts). I'm not saying that this will happen...but it can...

My insurance (broker is Competition Insruance in Edmonton/underwriter is Aviva) asked for an appraisal on my new policy and let me know they can ask for one every 5yrs...or if I do more mods. A bit of a pain/some cost but they cut me a smokin deal when I bought Collector's Insurance (not all cars eligible) so I can't complain.

Anyone is welcome to give them a call but I'll tell you up front they may/can turn you down if:
- you're under 25yrs old/less than 10yrs continuous driving history
- you have an iffy/bad driving record
- you want to insure car as a daily driver (they specialize in classic/rare cars)
- you intend to put the car on a race track (or in to street racing) or are crazy-modded: they actually have insurance for race cars but it only provides off-track coverage

My car is also insured the same way, under collector car insurance at its appraised value. I get a good payout for a good price on the monthly insurance. Its the best deal but its harder to get

They legally cannot turn you down based on your age, driving habits or frequency.

Legality and reality don't always walk together; if you were 19yrs old male, with a recently-unsuspended license, 2 MVA's and a DUI but you said you had $15k/yr available to pay for insurance...I think they'd still find a way not to take your business.

Typically what I've seen (and I believe Dr.Mango has already stated something similar) is that the cheaper/more-specialized the insurance, the more-difficult it will be to get a policy....even though you're driving history is the same regardless of which insurer you talk to. Reality rules.

Indeed. My point was that for me to maintain my rarer and better collectors insurance, there are more hoops to just through, but its worth it in the end if you ever make a claim. I will get a better value on my claim with the extra work I do to get the coverage I have
