While treking through Google pages, the usual link to link to link surfing, trying to find some info on the R32 GTR Torque Split Gauge and what I can use as a replacement if I switch over to a Haltech Digital Dash display........I came across this GEM of a thread.
http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/123413-r34-mfd-into-r33.html (http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/123413-r34-mfd-into-r33.html)
All I can really say is, I have a new project to look into now and this has actually got me pumped.......lol
I am sure the prices for even a used display is going to be completely insane, but I will look into it none the less, as I REALLY WANT THIS.
I figure, give up the center dash vents in an R32 dash and counter sink the display into it instead - voila! PIMP.
.....and I guess there is also the NISMO Display upgrade to this unit that can be performed afterwards if wanted. ;)
I sure wouldn't mind this in my dash.....

I found a PDF of it and saved a copy as well:

Anyone have any thoughts ?

i was one of the people watching that thread and commenting on it while it was going on... really into that as well.. but the only reason it was feasable for him was because he's an electrical engineer... so he bought a "broken" MFD and repaired it first...
the cost of one of those MFD's functioning is near the $2000 mark... i almost had one from australia for $1000 CAD, but was beaten to the punch by someone who went and picked it up locally... super rare to find those for sale.
its actually not hard to make it communicate with our R32 ECU as the guy proved and documented on putting it in his r33...
pretty cool, but when you weigh the cost - benefit ratio.. its tough to justify.

I'm thinking if I can get one for under $1,000, I will do the conversion in my car, otherwise, like you said......it's a little high @ $2,000 for the unit.

I thought about that already. Problem is finding an applicable touch screen, otherwise it's not worth doing.
I want to eventually get a portable PC (touch screen) with Nistune running on it, so can display digital gauges like Watertemp, Injector duty cycle, AFM voltage, etc and can datalog gauges, adjust tune via Nistune tuning software, run a wideband off portable PC to autotune fuelmaps via Nistune tuning software, etc.
The ability to do this is one of the reasons why I chose Nistune over other ECU options. Don't need to wireup stuff, as uses consult plug.
I was looking at a Mini-Mustang Touch Tablet PC for example with 4x USB ports (one for wideband, one for Consult cable, etc), Windows XP pro, LAN, WiFi, etc -

Don't know if I will ever get to do it, but you can dream about doing it. :)

What do you mean "applicable?" A 7" touchscreen should fit in a 2-din space in the console. A carPC might not have the same 'bling' factor as an R34 screen, but it sure would be more useful. If you run any standalone ECU it would be a perfect, and likely show you a lot more than the R34 unit.
For under $1000 you could have a PC that does music, GPS, ECU control and guages, internet, bluetooth phone connectivity... the list is endless.
I just finished purchasing all my carPC components, I'll have to document the install for you guys.
Here's a couple links to get the juices flowin.
