PSIa, PSIg, Brass, Stainless Steel.

I am shopping currently for a bunch of sensors and need to get this straightened out before I finalize everything.

What I understand;

- PSIa for Boost, Vacuum, MAP sensors, that require an atmospheric reference and positive/negative scale (boost/vacuum gauge).

- PSIg for Fluid Pressures (Fuel, Oil) and pressure measurements that only require 0 as a minimum.

Is this correct ?

Next....... Sensor Body Material.

As an example, AEM Sensors; Brass is half the price or less, compared to Steel Bodied Sensors.
(100 PSIg Wet/Dry, $65 Brass vs. $165 Steel).

What is the downside to using Brass ?

Thanks in advance,
Allan

Brass will conduct heat/electricity better than SS I would guess as it is more ductile.

Brass is also cheaper to make than SS. (although brass itself is quite expensive compared to other metals like regular steel or low grade aluminum)

Brass however corrodes in acid and will tarnish, where as SS will resist that.

I would go brass sensors over steel anyday, unless I was rolling in cash and wiping my ass with 100's.

Brass threads can strip easily if it's screwing into a harder steel.

Stainless steel conducts heat 7 times worse then brass. Regular steel is about 2.5 times worse.

All my sensors from Stack are brass if that matters to you. I don't know if a steel or brass pressure sensor is better then the other but you should use a gm sensor :P
