Hey guys,

I had this word file on my desktop for quite a while. Might be useful to some people (mostly common knowledge). When I did my rebuild I got Tomei in california to translate the instructions from japanese to english over the phone. This might be exactly the same as it in the Nissan service manual(I havent checked), let me know or delete this if that is the case.

I beleive they instructed me to use moly lube while torquing the studs.

Instructions for torquing Tomei head studs.

1. Torque the stud by using a double nut to 2.5KGm-3.0KGm or 24.5Nm-29.4Nm
In the sequence displayed in the diagram

2. Torque the nuts down to 3.0KGm or 29.4Nm In the sequence displayed in the diagram.

3. Torque the nuts down again to 11KGm or 107.9Nm In the sequence displayed in the diagram

4. Loosen the nuts to 0kgm or 0Nm

5. Retorque the nuts to 3.0KGm or 29.4Nm

6. Use a Cam angle wrench to 85-90 Degrees

Instructions for torquing Tomei Main studs.

1. Torque the stud by using a double nut to 2.5KGm-3.0KGm or 24.5Nm-29.4Nm
In the sequence displayed in the diagram

2. Use Heat resistant paste on the threads for the nut

3. Torque the nuts to 3.0KGm or 29.4 Nm In the sequence displayed in the diagram.

4. Use a cam angle wrench to 45 Degrees

Very nice.

We need more Assembly/Spec posts ;)

When I actually get my shortblock off to the builder I choose, they are going to hate me. It will be accompanied by instructions such as these, because I don't want ANY mistakes.

I need to ask something here...

If you are like me and use an OEM headgasket, is loosening and tightening head studs back to spec a bad idea? I opted not to loosen and re-tighten because of the type of HG I have. I thought it could potentially decrease its seal.

Anyone agree/disagree?

Follow the bolt guide. gtr manual gives a tq/loose/retorque guide just like this with oem headgasket.

Oem works :p
I have tomei cam cap studs I need to find torque specs for

Call tomei in California, ask them to translate the instructions. They'll translate them for you over the phone. Its pretty hilarious because you can hear the guy on the phone spouting off in japanese to another guy who im guessing only speaks japanese(probably from tomei Japan). He will then relay the info back to you in busted ass engrish.
