Hi all,
So I'm going to try my first "involved" install - an HKS EVC-S Boost controller. The only problem is that I don't understand the terminology in the manual (yes, I'm new to working on cars). I tried looking up a DIY guide on SAU, but they all seem to be for the RB25, not the 26. Can someone point me in the right direction, or provide any links for an install guide (preferably with pics).
Oh, and I intend to learn how to do this myself, so I really don't want to just bring it to a shop for install.

You should share some of the terminology so we can clear up whatever may be unclear.
Are you having trouble with the wiring? Vaccum line routing? Solenoid port selection?
Let us know what you need a hand with.

OK, this is going to be a long list......
First off, where is the surge tank that connects to the fuel regulator? Is the regulator the tiny little cylindrical thing hanging off the front of the fuel rail?
What type of vavle setup do I use, swing or poppet?
And the diagrams only show one turbo - how do I T into a twin turbo? There is a 6mm hose that is supposed to attach to the compressor side do I have to T it and hook in onto both turbos, or just one?
Where is a safe place to mount the new control valve?
Do I bypass and remove the stock boost solenoid completely? What about the brass restrictor?
How do I determine where the ignition wire is?
See, I told you I'm new to all of this... :o

You need to tie both wastegates (swing type) to the boost control side of the EVC-S
Then you need to tap into the vaccum/boost side of your fuel pressure regulator (yes the bronze cylinder near the front of the fuel rail) use this to feed the pressure sensor on the EVC-S. Make sure you install the HKS filter as well
Finally you need a boost source that ideally doesn't see vaccum (right on the turbo is ideal, but anywhere before the throttle bodies works)
For GTR's I dont recommend using the factory boost control vaccum lines, as often they crack and or leak. Run new Silicone hoses and make sure you use the smallest zip-ties to secure each connection.
You could mount the solenoid in the same location as stock, or anywhere that will stay fairly cool.

Oh come on, terrible thing to practice. At least run a new vacuum/boost source, tee'ing the fpr is so sketchy.

You can do it that way, but its also good practice to confirm what the FPR is actually seeing as well. Specifically on this EVC-s its just a small pressure sensor, similar to say a Defi gauge.

Ok, and what about the stock solenoid and restrictor? Tear them out, or leave them in?

they will no longer do anything, you can remove
dont set your boost to high either!

Depends on everything! What's done to your engine, what engine management, which turbos, which intercooler ect ect ect

As far as power mods go, I've just got Apexi intakes, and exhaust, HKS downpipe, yellow jackets coils, NGK plugs, and that's about it. Pretty much everything else is stock.

If your running a factory ECU id keep boost 10ish. I had a mines ECU and ran my turbos at 14psi and had solid AFR's. Some stock turbo's fail very fast at that boost level though.

I ran 1.3 bar on an all factory setup last summer. Some might call me lucky but I believe Terrh did the same thing.
I have seen stock turbos go at 7 psi, nothing stopping them apparently. GTR pulls with 1.3 bar though, quite something. It's no aftermarket twins but they are phenomenal with some bigger boost.

I have seen stock turbos go at 7 psi, nothing stopping them apparently. GTR pulls with 1.3 bar though, quite something. It's no aftermarket twins but they are phenomenal with some bigger boost.
Do those factory turbos hold that 1.3 bar deep into the powerband? Or do they drop some boost at high rpm?

ya i'm currently running my stocks at .95 bar and no problems what so ever. boost stays at .95 all the way to 8k rpm.
Edit: stock ecu as well
