Ball bearing inside oil filter mount

hey guys im putting my engine together right now and I found something I dont like. There is what looks like a ball bearing about 3/16" in the block where the oil filter plate moounts to the block. This ball can be pressed into the block and has a metal retainer that holds it where it is. It can be pressed into the block with your finger. The metal retainer that holds it in place is very cracked and clearly would let oil by. I need to know what it is and where I can get a replacement

Give us a picture but I'm pretty certain I know exactly what you are talking about

That ball should move as oil will flow through there if the filter plugs up. it is the filter bypass.

thanks McFly. I called Nissan and I guess I'll have to order one so that puts this to a hold for a bit. Can you check for me if it matches up with another North american counterpart please?

I have no idea what part you are actually talking about without a pictures.

Chances are you do not want to change it with a stock piece as it will cost an arm and a leg. get a picture and we will go from there.

looks to be available from a local nissan

While you have the pedestal off do you want to measure the inside diameter and outside diameter of that mounting face. It would b a great help to me. Even roughly with a ruler or something.

inside diameter came up as 2.122" or 49.43mm
outside diameter came up as 2.848" or 72.63mm
measured with calipers on the face that mates up with the pedestal

Yeah I know, thats my next issue. I can wreck it taking it out but I doubt it will be easy getting the new one in. I ordered one today that should be in tomorrow. The P/N McFly had didnt come up in their system but he found the same part on a VG30 so I hope its the same
