EDIT: its for a RB20 and im aiming for 520-530 to the crank
k so im starting to plan out my build for next winter and the first thing i want to do is my top end,
im here's what im planing on
- Poncam's
- Tomei lifters
- OEM springs
- OEM valves
- JUN gliders
im fairly set on that set up as ive seen what it can execute.
but im not to sure what cam gears or coil packs i should go with , coil packs especially . first i was going to go with Splitfires like the masses , but then i was thinking about just getting brand new OEM and then i came across Okada products so now im unsure. any in site would be nice.

Isn't the one thing you should replace the valve guides for aftermarket ones?
Those okada coils are very nice if you have an extra 700 to spend rather then going splitfire/oem.

errr yeah ment to write JUN not OEM = / fixed thanks,
yeah id very much like to find a comprehensive comprehensive dyno sheet or something to see the where the differences lie.
Yellowjacket works just as well as stock, or Spitfire.
Coils work the same when new. It's just that the 15-20 year old resistors leak and work less efficiently.
10 second RB's run OEM (new) coils. It should work for most of us.

see now what Eric and Sean had once said a ways back was that they are not the same. In fact the splitfires are the ones they detest.
Are the pon cams drop in for the rb20? Are you sure you don't want bigger cams, I know I would. I suppose you would then need springs and retainers as well though.
Can produce 500whp with stock cams, adjustable camgears, etc -

Poncams are drop in with stock camgears, stock valve springs (best to get the stock valve springs tested by engine rebuilder if they have done high km or replace them with new valve springs), etc. Good for 18rwkw / 24rwhp increase at same boost level (without adjustable camgears).
Stock valve guides are replaced with bronze valve guides on higher reving RB engines, as stock valve guides tend to crack when reving higher than stock rev limit.
Springs, retainers, camgears, valve guides with procams (if your changing to solid lifter). Unless you use Tomei cams that work with stock cam gears.

For your goals have you considered going solid lifters, and a cam with more than 8.5-9 lift?
While talking to Gaelen, a Pro Cam can be fitted. You can use a smaller lift/duration cam and stay with hydraulic lifters. Anything significantly larger will require modding to solid lifters and new spring kits from TOMEI.
I'm going with a mild PROcam.

If a guy is only looking for 350 Hp then what is the most important things to replace in an RB20 head besides the bump sticks ofc?

not replacing the valve guides with bronze ones would be a bad plan.
the entire reason my car doesn't run right now is due to the shitty OEM guides.

Ouch. I would assume there is head rebuild kits available for all RBs?
Kyle
Make up your own kit for RB20DET.
Supertech sells valve springs, oversized valves for RB20DET -

Tomei for valve guides, cams.

I've been learning to stay away from the JDM brands because of the huge over pricing they do for the same thing. Any north american companies that are good for head parts for RB20?

I will disagree with that statement. Many of the Japanese companies have put a lot of time and effort into designing cams/springs for a head.
Yes you will pay more for a setup, but it will be tailed directly for use in an rb. Once brand of American valve springs max out at 13.x mm of lift. It just shows they are slightly more generic in nature.

I think Supertech is based in California. So it's outside Japan.
Only JDM part I mentioned in that post was Tomei, as they make valve guides for RB20DET.

Maybe in this case thats true because I havent looked into head gear to much yet and you have a lot of experience with everything RB related. It was more of a generalized comment about JDM stuff. I seen a lot of times on this forum that you can save a good deal of money buying non JDM parts. Like I said though, you are probably in line head wise.
