View Full Version : Wheel fitment HELP!

I'm sure this has been beat to death but I'm having a hellova time figuring this one out.
I'm going with a 17x9 (maybe 18) to keep things light.
I'm trying to get the wheels to fit INSIDE the wheel well but still snug. I don't want rubbing issues and I don't want to roll the openings. The car is gonna be seeing the the track so I don't want to end up cutting sidewalls.
I've been told 20-25mm is a good offset to go with but in pics it looks to close to the opening to be safe.
Can you guys PLEASE tell me what you know and if possible show me how your wheels fit with a given offset?!?
I effin' hate buying wheels!!!

Thanks a ton!

Do you know what the offset is on OEM R32 rims? Thats a good starting point to figuring out how much more you want to go

I have +18 9.5 W on the front 10.5" W on the rear on my GTSt and I think its just a little more then you would want to see on your GTR from what your saying. I would say +22-25 is about where you want to be

Can we make this a wheel fittment thread for all?
Kyle is right. Do a little math. Figure out what you have right now. Take some measurements and figure out how much more you want to go....

Thaaaaat said.
Any idea what 17x9 +12 would look like on a GTS-t?

DrMango

That would be massive I think lol

I've been doing some more in depth digging and came up with this...

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

and it's been a pretty damn big help.

My issue is my wheels and tires are sold and my car is on jack stands. I had staggered wheels on it, didn't want that so I sold 'em.
I'm pretty damn sure Kyle is right from what I've managed to put together.

"Funny Gas" (great name!) I think your wheels would stick way the "F" out. You'd be gettin' rash on your paint and you'd have to keep the car jacked up so you didn't smash wheels into wheel well openings.

It'd be cool if some peeps could post some pics of their fitment.

I keep hearing that an 18x10 +18 is perfect for a gtr.

this is 17x9.5 +17 front and 18x10 +18 back on a gtst

Im thinking a 17x9 +12 and some stretched 215 or 225 tires with either flares or a roll and pull would work..

according to the fittment calc they will poke less and have more inner clearance than the pictured front wheels...

DrMango

Is that JVDs car?

I had to run 215 fronts and 235 rears to make mine fit. The rears needed a good roll but it looks good and doesnt rub unless I hit a huge pothole

For what I'm trying to do in both of those pics the wheels are sticking out WAY to far. It just doesn't look right. Harder on wheel bearings too? I'm pretty sure when the engineers designed the layout they were doing what was best (give or take of course).
JVDs tires just do not fit by the way. The tires side wall should be in line with the rim. Not all pulled in.

depends on what you are going for. myself the stretched tire look with wheels that poke out a bit and tires that just clear inside the fenders is what im going for.. on the street anyways. on the track i will have more of what you are looking for... with tire width that is flush with the wheel.

This to me is proper fitment...

for grip i agree with you whole heartedly and will be running a similar setup.
but for street, show, and drift i will run the "drifter" look with streteched tires.

bobbo

How can that not affect the design of the tire? If you look at a cut away of a tire there are belts that run "radially" and it would seem that would cause the surface of the tire to have a convex profile. Ending up with uneven wear and unwanted stresses.
I'll be using the car mostly on the street but will get on the track atleast a couple of times this year so I'll be going with a set up that works well for both worlds.
Besides every once in awhile the street accidentally turns into a track! On ramps only of course! ;)

It will be no harder on your wheel bearings then adding larger rims in the first place.

I wonder what size those wheels are in the last pic. Looks like a good fitment to me.
Thanks again McFly!

Damn....pictures of gtrs that are ready for track..make me want to track my gtr...

i wish ther was one i calgary. theres really nothing for time attack or anything in calgary. even race city.

Edit: Allan ; DIE. i want those wheels...i might have to get in the market for wheels again. i put oem gtr wheels back on.

Thats how you get "good fitment" sadly... It's called stretch. His car was meant to look good. not perform. and it doesnt even work at that. its fucking green.

well i have no idea what you want for them, what they are worth. you're the one that claims used parts should be cheap. so if you stick by your own rules... we may be able to work something out :P

jvd actually tracked his cars...that's the big difference. People will argue the stretch thing allll day. And his car was different...most GTS/Rs = all the same. He did it differently. The keep labs r32 as well was a nice one.

I toally stick to my words, although I never said cheap. I did however hint at a used part percentage of new, which was somewhere around 60% when I was complaining about another seller. Cheap is relative. On that note, it wouldn't be worth my time selling them for any less than $1,000...if I was desperate......and they would be worth every penny to the right person.....and then some.

I was comparing McFlys and Allans pics. McFlys 22mm offset looks like it sticks out more then Allans 12mm offset.
Weird

McFly do you have any problems with rubbing? Did you roll your wheel well openings?

mcfly
01-12-2010, 07:34 PM
I run 18x10.5 + 15 with 295/30/18 on my r32 gtr
the pictures i posted were another persons r32 gtst

r32 gtst and r32 gtr's fit differently. the wheel wells on a gtr accommodate much larger wheels and tires. So allans 9.5's wont look out as far as the 9's on a the gtst because of that.

I'll take current pics. The one I posted was running 265's.

My current 275/35/18's look MUCH different.....and better.

Run-of-the-mill classic BNR32 / R32 GTR wheels in 18 are 99% of the time 18x9.5 +12
