Face it, we've all seen this and other questions like it asked a MILLION times before, on every other forum we visit, by everyone from Newbs to some 'Seasoned' Vets who have bought into the 'JDM Fear Tactic' marketing campaigns.

- How much power can an RB26 block handle ?
- How much power can a standard RB26 block take ?
- What is the limit of my Stock RB26 Crankshaft ?
- How much power can the OEM Main Bolts handle ?
- Do I need $500+ Main Studs ?
Etc......etc......etc.......

I am going to make this post straight to the point with the example below:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
RIPS 240Z, March 2009:
----------------------
- 7.91 @ 176 MPH, 7.89 @ 175 MPH
- 1125 WHP + 75 WHP NOS to Spool Turbo.
- Stock block, Stock crank, Stock cradle, Stock used mains bolts.
- Conventional style wet sump with TOMEI oil pump.
- 1277.5kg (217kg over weight for the class raced in).
- Basic 6 point street cage, no bars through to the engine bay or x-member etc.
- 13" wide rear tire.
- Chevy TH400 auto.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone knows that an RB26 Block was designed to make/hold power. An RB30 block was designed for export in a non-Nissan passenger cars.
Both RB26 and RB30 use a FORGED CRANKSHAFT from the factory and a similar MAIN CAP system. Need I say more ?

Save your money. Avoid the hype. Use a reputable builder. Use common sense.

The Nissan RB BOTTOM END (in any flavour) was an over-designed platform capable of much more than was produced in terms of HP from the factory and it has been proven time and time again (by NON-JAPANESE builders) that it is a STRONG platform and for 99% of builds out there, does not require all of the multi-thousand dollar Washers, Nuts and Bolts to hold the crankshaft in place in a high HP/high RPM build.

**The above, of course, pertains to BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, MAIN CAPS, MAIN BOLTS ONLY. This has nothing to do with Rods, Rod Bolts and Pistons - all of which require upgrading to suit your desired power level.

So, in summation, the next time I see someone ask one of the above questions, I am going to loose my mind....lol.
Consider the topic covered.

Please add other examples of Stock Bottom end MONSTER Builds on RBs if you know of any.

Cheers,
Allan

Good info Allan. I had assumed the rod bolt theory was correct in that they were a definite weak point..for the cost I would still change those
