I am still trying to figure out how to mount everything TASTEFULLY, as I am 100% against surface mounting gauges, as I think it looks gay, especially in a Street Car. The ONLY thing that should ever be considered to be surface mounted is a BIG TACH....that's it...and even then, sometimes it shouldn't.
Pillar mounts are cool....I have nothing against them. 'Dash' extensions etc. are gay.
Anyways, dig through your pics archives and post up some nice shots to share and give ideas with.
I have a few here that IN MY OPINION are labeled to MY TASTE and shouldn't be considered the be-all and end-all, as everyone has their own taste.
Here we go....

I modeled my interior after Will's old Gts-t. The one that was sold and then totaled, it may have been before you time Allan so I'm not sure. The gauges were Defi BF and I mounted them on the dash, ran the wires behind the dash. It was a pretty clean set-up. The Defi control unit was in the center console hatch along with my Sat Radio hidden away.
I had Boost, oil pressure and was in the process of adding oil temp and a PFC before I sold my car. PFC would have been water temp, injector duty, etc... And I would have put it right where the GTR's clock is.
I have to go find a photo...

While searching for this, I found your thread on the Haltech. Good choice, it's IMO the best ECU on the market right now for cost VS. what you get. I was thinking about it for myself for a while so I could have the DASH unit to monitor everything for the RX7.
The thing I like best in an R32 is a STOCK center DIN area. Hiding everything else makes it looks so much better. Zulu ran a similar setup to what I did (well, I installed his stuff... so).. he just had oil temp and a PFC in addition. It was basically exactly how I was planning to do mine if I kept my car.
The one thing I did over Will was trim down the pedistal area. He just left it all and threw some tape on and stuck it to the dash. I used a dremel to trim it down and re-painted the mounts. A long with the Defi daisychain system and only having to have one wire go through the dash it looked very nice. Easy to read at the track.

My old setup is very similar to what I'm doing in the RX7. Someone makes a pod that fits in the center of the dash where a useless speaker is...

I don't think it's looking too good for me, in terms of running a Haltech right now.
I can't see my AEM setup selling that quickly, unless I lower the price considerably and almost give it away......as there is NO WAY my wife will let me have 2 ECUs at the same time, trying to sell one, if you know what I mean. So no Haltech till the AEM is long gone......otherwise, I may just find myself sleeping in my GTR...lol

relocated the climate control to where the cigarette lighter and ashtray used to be, i like the idea of being in a cockpit style seat, where all the controls are within arms reach and are visible.

bad pic for me but this is my interior as it sat a year ago at the start of my rebuild. Need a new steering wheel because ive worn mine pretty good.
All of the cluster gauges are red to match the defi gauges like archaeic_bloke's car is setup.
I left room for the other defi BF that I need to get soon.

The lights are easy to change to red. I took all mine out and took the bulbs to the parts store and just matched them up. I didn't use LEDs and they came out just a bright and as red as my defi gauges so it all matches nicely

DrMango has the right idea IMO, those pictures JD74 posted of them on the din panel are good too.
Those glove box gauges are completely worthless if you ask me. If I remember right sitting in mcflys car I couldn't even open the glovebox without it hitting my knees 1/2 way down anyway. How can you have someone/or yourself sit in the passenger seat and tune/watch gauges when you cant even open the glovebox. And when you're driving are you gonna put your head in the passenger seat and gaze at them???
Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine. I just personally see the glovebox as a useless place for gauges. Controllers/ecus and stuff its a good spot though.
Here was my previous setup...no in-car pics. I now have the boost controller below and one more gauge on there. My wideband is in a special place.

I will never put a gauge on my dash of pillars. i want as much view as possible. putting it in the center console is great. glovebox i find useless. you have to lean over to see it? might as well put it in the back seat imo
Interesting subject.
My car has the same Apexi boost gauge (30sec playback, peak, warning, etc) in same location as this car at 2:09 in videoclip -
YouTube- SOLD!! HCR32 2.4L K27 TURBINE OVER 400PS
It's out of view when driving and 30sec playback, peak record means you don't need to look at gauge.
I want to eventually get a portable PC (touch screen) with Nistune running on it, so can display digital gauges like Watertemp, Injector duty cycle, AFM voltage, etc and can datalog gauges, adjust tune via Nistune tuning software, run a wideband off portable PC to autotune fuelmaps via Nistune tuning software, etc.
The ability to do this is one of the reasons why I chose Nistune over other ECU options.
I was looking at a Mini-Mustang Touch Tablet PC for example with 4x USB ports (one for wideband, one for Consult cable, etc), Windows XP pro, LAN, WiFi, etc -

Don't know if I will ever get to do it, but you can dream about doing it. :)

Damn I bet that stays in place better then my peice of CF. I can't figure out a good way of keeping it solid without screws/rivets. Everyone always touches it and pushes on it and eventually it starts to break the double sided tape..

here is my interior pic.
i removed the ashtray and installed my edfc and boost controller,my girlfriend kept on unplugging the edfc with here feet,it use to be just on the passenger side of the cig lighter.
they are a little crooked right now,but up and out of the way.also there is a engine start button where the cig lighter use to be,previous owner.and a boost gauge on the a pillar, also added the much need cupholder.
i installed the nardi wheel, this was an awesome upgrade.the old momo wheel was to flat and it just wasn't comfortable to drive.i am 5'11,and with my seat back to the way i liked for the reach for the pedals,it felt like my arms where to short in cornering,to much of a reach,so i would move my seat up,but then i felt cramped.and i noticed on stock wheels that they have a little concave to them.
the deep corn was on sale,so i bought it,and my problem was fixed.
upgrades to my interior will be,the red stiche shifter boot and e brake boot and would like to get the white nismo shift knob, and the nismo 3 gauge pod,and someday lengthen the wires for my edfc and boost controller so they sit straight.

Well..... The Power Fc pretty much covers most of the engine parameters and A Blitz boost controller does boost. I also bought an addition harness for the Blitz which was monitoring injector and maf voltages.
The greedy gauges monitor oil pressure, fuel pressure, egt, oil temp and a innovate wide band.
That was enough for me...hehe.
The blitz harness is just sitting there right now, do you have any suggestions for three channels of voltage monitoring?

Right above your right knee.......in the round vent. It has been done many times with great results from what I have seen on other guy's builds.
Nice and 'clean'......
^^^ Although I find it "clean" I find it quite inefficient for something you would want to monitor on the fly like a boost gauge.
IMO something like Water/Oil Temp would be perfect there. Boost psi, AFR etc. not so much. But that's just my perspective.

I think more than $100,000 for those V8 supercars.
Depends on the damage. Some pit crew use hammers on fenders, so they clear tyres (don't rub), tape hood shut, etc. They rebuild the cars after race or have a few spare chassis / cars.

There should be. I can imagine that being dangerous as hell. I would never rock them while driving because I would feel uncomfortable.

well damn this sucks. I was going to go and post a picture of my stack here but then i realized i have none. I don't think it is the best either, fuel gauge doesn't work still.

The stack is baller status...but this dash>stack.

He even used a digital percent readout for fuel level! And his wideband is integrated as well as a digital readout!

That is sweet but being picky the FUL indicator is too big and not going with the size of the defis. Sweet setup nonetheless.

Nice setup, have to agree with Trini on the FUL indicator tho...good thread, giving me ideas for my setup.

I like it but I dont like the fuel and wideband readouts. They would have been better placed somewhere wlese. I do like the clean OEM look with the matchings rings that Allan posted before. It looked better than this setup IMO

I would do this in a heart beat if I had the money. I've thought about it in the past, and hope I'll do it one day...

Sucks to see a silvia defaced like that. Such a clean interior OEM
Kyle
As bad as that is, it wouldn't take too too much to clean it up. I'm sure you could use the tach still (as a boat anchor, or a block for behind you wheels when your e-brake gives away) and you could hide all the surface mounted gauges somewhere. Then just take off those ridiculous cup holders and stickers... few find touches here and there and voila. Somewhat saved from disaster...
What do you want to bet that half the gauges on that dash don't even read out. Probably not even hooked up ha.

The exterior is likely to be 10 x worse than the interior so there is no point in cleaning up the clutter inside. I would say that those gauges would be too hard to make any sense of while driving the car. You would probably hit something trying to find your boost reading lol

that appears to jut out quiet a ways into the field of vision.
Some nice clean custom setups looks good.

Woo first post on GTRPWR lol.
Posted this in my build thread on GTRC.. Bad pic but you get the idea..
The gauges, from the top left are - oil temp, oil pressure, wideband
The single gauge in the din slot is my boost gauge, as the cliche dash placement was kind of bright / attention grabbing..

Here is a shitty cell phone pic of mine. Since the pic has been taken I've moved the TSC to where the stock clock was. I hate cars with clocks like that. Oh and the hand commander is gone too. I changed the dash lights to blue to match the Autometer Cobalt gauges.

So when your screen is up you can't see your boost gauge...?
Hummmmm...

Yea, but i never use it unless im on long drives, at which point looking at the boost gauge is useless.. If i'm at the track, im sure the screen will be the last thing i need to look at lol. Besides, my Greddy profec is where the gtr clock normally is, and i can see it very well.. Actually, having the boost gauge is more aesthetics over functionality since the ebc reads peak boost and gives far more information anyways.. The mechanical boost gauge just acts as a secondary reference but in whole integers which isn't accurate when you want to run 14.7 lbs..

I would have personally not used the eyelids for the gauges, but I really think you did a good job. Good stuff.

Clean factory jobs that take two looks to notice are the best in my opinion but the last few do look good nothing jumping out and saying JAPPANNNN!!!

Only issue i found without them is substantial glare from the window @ night.. Horrid to drive with, especially on long trips.. All i can see is 2 white smears and; yellow, green, red, green, green, red.. (wideband).. Such a freakin nuissance. But i agree, it looks cleaner without :(
