Looks nice, wonder if it actually makes the box more rigid or if the oem transmission casing is just too flexible.

I would say that yes it makes the difference because Auto Gallery Yokohama are building their 690 Mission around the stock transmision housing with straight cut gears and strenghtened center plate.
