Well, nothing special just yet. Mostly stock , clean 91 GTR.
Came with a 5zigen catback, and Ohlins suspension (very nice!).

So I'm planning on the engine bay looking a bit different by summer of 2010. I'm converting to a single T4 twinscroll turbo (most likely a GT4088), and am shooting for whatever I can safely make off of pump crap (get only get 91 octane around here, and this is going to be 100% street driven). Hoping that number will be somewhere close to 550rwhp, maybe with some meth.

For oiling, I'm going to run some oil sump baffles, a Moroso external oil pump, most likely an accusump, and a cooler.

Engine wise, I'm going to change rods and pistons, as well as a top end rebuild with some 272/10mm cams, springs, seals and guides....probably spin it to around 8500 or so with a Ross harmonic dampener. I have an AEM EMS for it, so I'll also be converting to a MAP setup with the ITB's. Streetability is not very much of a concern to me as it won't be daily driven (at least that's what I tell myself!)

I've been thinking about possibly running maybe a 100-150 shot direct port nitrous...we'll see what happens I guess.

Anyways, that's mostly it, aside from the obvious sh*t I have to replace.

What's TH1 mean?

th1 is the color code for the deep blue pearl paint I believe.
that is a very clean car. that master cylinder is spotless.

TH1 is your paint code. I think thats one of the cleanest engine bays that I have ever seen. Very nice purchase man!

hahaha yeah, I don't know what buddy was thinkin...installing a catback, but leaving the stock airbox and boost restrictor. Cluster says 60,000...Not sure if I 100% believe it, but the car looks so clean in every spot I look that it seems pretty reasonable.

I think it's just the lighting in these pictures guys....The paint code is 732 I believe.

DrMango
12-16-2009, 08:43 AM
its not 732 unless the car is Black Pearl Metallic. It looked blue but its probably the lighting.
I would be tempted to believe the milage on your car. It looks the part with such perfect paint and engine bay. The steering wheel and the rest of the interior really help with determining the KMs. The sock airbox actually flows really well and its a good thing that he didn't feel the need to go crazy on the boost..

Kyle

christ.deyoung
12-16-2009, 01:12 PM
Yes, it is indeed metallic black.

The interior is also in excellent condition!

http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss53/christdeyoung/DSC00847.jpg?t=1260997080

Here's the gauge cluster...I always assumed it was aftermarket because it has Nismo written on it.

http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss53/christdeyoung/DSC00849.jpg?t=1260997089

I forgot to mention the car did come with install papers for some sort of Nismo clutch cover and disc. It's pretty worn out so it can't really take a hard launch on dry pave. I think I'm going to go with an Exedy hyper twin...maybe I'll spend the bit extra on the carbon twin. I figure the discs are lighter, so it would give the stock synchros a bit of a break.

Is there any other service records that show some KM record for when serviced?

Kyle

Oakville
12-16-2009, 04:43 PM
well that is an aftermarket cluster, the nismo cluster, of course. in most cases I wouldnt think a car with kms that low could be legit...but just looking at the condition of the interior, and the fact that they left BR and air box in...makes me think you have one well kept car!

edit: that is an older Nismo cluster too. The current nismo clusters have speedos that go up to 320kmh

Brake master cylinder looks aftermarket. Would explain why it's clean looking.

Factory brake master cylinder has a black lid, like in this photo -

I dunno.

The only problem I had with this car was alignment issues. It seems as if this car may have hit the curb at some point in its life. The left side camber was out quite a bit, causing a hard pull to the right, and inside tire wear. To correct this, I installed adjustable camber links. The left side link is currently about 1 cm longer than the right :S
I didn't get to drive it a whole lot since I fixed/aligned it, but it does seem to drive much better...can't comment on tire wear just yet. Should I take some measurements in the front clip when I pull the motor?
Another problem I have with it is the MAF sensors I think...seems to be a common issue. Sometimes I can drive it hard all day and it works fine, other days I can't do a decent pull without having it sputter its hole out afterwards (Demanding power from it usually provokes this behaviour). That's why I'm converting to a MAP sensor setup...that, and because they're cheaper and more reliable than MAFs. I'm no tuner, but in my mind MAP > MAF.

Not a ridiculous rebuild...enough to handle 650+whp probably...only planning on running 550-600 though. I dunno....15k worth of parts or so I guess.

Hey man when it comes to that alignments I can help you out. I'm the alignment guy at my work an I know the numbers pretty well. If you take it in for alignment, make sure you get a before and after printout. And let me see both, I'll be able to tell you what's going on and what will pull which way.

is there any way i can preserve my tires a little longer with poor negative camber.

just realized where i posted this, whoops

Rapier46

What is your camber at?

You have the alignment specs up here in the download files section. 1.05* -+ 0.30*

Even within three quarters of a degree of 1.00*, you will be fine. outside of that, depending on what driving you do, you will be fine. i had -2.00* of camber on my GTS(in the rear), and i did alot of drifting in it, and the tires lasted pretty good.

DrMango

Next time I get my car in I'll send you the before and after for your advice. After my last alignment I still have bad wear on the inside fronts

Kyle

Yeah, that would be including the manifold/turbo. I already have a 6boost for it with a divided T4 flange.

Since I installed my camber arms, it seems to drive pretty straight. I don't have a printout for my alignment, so I can't really comment on the numbers. If I have any more problems with it, I'll be sure to write down the specs.

Yeah, he's a cool cat. :D

Parts ordered so far:
270/10.8 Procams
Tomei lifters
Tomei Sump baffle
Tomei cam cap studs (I didn't like the way the bolts felt coming out)
HKS valve stem seals
Tomei headgasket
OEM valve spring seats
GT1 Hicas Cancel bar
N1 Water pump
Timing belt tensioner/idler/spring
Nismo clutch pivot

Ordering in the next few days:
Manley Turbo Tuff I beams
CP pistons (Engine's at the machinists being measured....either 86 or 86.5mm bore)
Manley valve springs/locks/retainers
Bully stage 4 clutch
and probably more I'm forgetting...and the list isn't complete. lol

I don't know what these things generally take for rod/main bearings. I'm assuming the guy doing the measuring will tell me?

looks good chris, what manifold did you go with?

christ.deyoung
01-31-2011, 03:47 PM
6boost twinscroll. As you can see it uses two wastegates as it's completely divided. I'm using 38mm Tials....should be more than enough to keep the boost down.
A little tricky to get the manifold in place, as well as piping the oil drain...Power steering had to be moved or removed...I opted for the latter as the high pressure lines were in the way of my external oil pump. You'll also notice where I put my oil filter (doesn't that spot look familiar? lol), and the 3 quart accusump mounted in front of the radiator.
Valve covers are OEM of course, just removed the coil cover thingy to keep them cooler.

As an update... Made two trips to tuner... Lost fuel pressure on the dyno twice. Made 308 on the stock pump, and 318whp with a new pump and filter. Turns out that the AEM fuel pressure regulator (brand new) was passing back to the tank enough that when it starts requiring lots if fuel, the pump simply can't keep the pressure up.
Going to install an Aeromotive regulator, and a 4 stage dry sump system. lol
I've given up on it for this season, but it will undoubtably be ready early spring.

christ.deyoung
08-29-2011, 06:43 AM
Danny Leger (JD Racing). I've heard bad things about Raven.

bobbo
08-29-2011, 06:53 AM
Danny is supposed to be good. Sadly it doesn't matter who the tuner is you'll find someone who know's someone who says something bad about every tuner.
Another member on here/friend of mine just had his VERY well massaged GTR tuned by Raven with success.
I think where he is right around the corner from me I'll likely go the same route plus he's got a brand new eddy current Dynojet and his rates are very fair.
Good luck and keep us in the loop as to how your progressing!

BTW Time Attack at Shubie this weekend if interested. There's gonna be a really tight old school RHD battle between me and another buddy with an FD.

What did your friend make for numbers on his GTR?

bobbo
08-30-2011, 04:02 AM
I think he made about 375 but his fuel pump started acting up so it was running out of fuel at around 5500rpm. They suspect he should be over the 400hp mark I guess.
I don't recall the torque #s.
PM'ed my cel #.
