Here's some pics of the R33 GTR I have on order, a few mods like intake, exhaust , suspension and Apex'i. Impatiently waiting for it to come in. No major plans yet, just drive and enjoy for the first season then start tweaking.

Although I am not a big fan of most R33's, some GTR's just look sexy none the less......and I am a sucker for white ;)

Very nice & clean looking ride. Congrats !

You need some 18x10.5 + 15's now with 295/30/18 rubber.

looks awesome on a r33

R33 GTR is a whole new ballgame compared to the GTS.

You'll probably be one of the first here to have one. Good stuff man.

Gawd, I spend enuf money on tires for my SER! I AutoX so I go thru tires pretty quick. Those would be way too much money, still have to pay for the kids edukashun!

No, you are right. I should have been more clear. Extreme offset WITH A BIG WHEEL away from the hub is what does it.

8" if LIP anyone ? That's a fact.

Very nice! Whats atop the list of mods for when it lands?

ColinR33
12-10-2009, 06:08 PM
Not sure yet, I'm thinking I'll drive it for the first season and get a feel for it, see what it needs. Was thinking about a larger intercooler to start, but reading up I see they're good for 400 or so HP, which is enuf for the time being (I know, the "need more power" juju will start working quick but I'll try to fight it off for a year or two...). I am more into autocross than the strip so likely suspension work, maybe a new clutch for the times I do feel like taking it to the track. One of the first things will be to get a baseline dyno done so I know what I'm starting with.

Allan74
12-10-2009, 06:21 PM
Actually, you will be surprised to know, the OEM IC can do 600 BHP or so......safely. 500 WHP for sure.

ColinR33
12-10-2009, 06:22 PM
There you go, that mod just dropped off my list!:)

Allan74
12-10-2009, 06:25 PM
Just remember, as an 'average' rule of thumb - everything except Turbos, Injectors and Fuel pump are good to 500 HP on the car from stock.

So, if you buy new Turbos, do a Fuel pump and Injectors along with ECU and you are done. Good solid 500 HP.

BUT, if you are pulling the engine for anything, Oil Pump, Rod Bolts are a MUST.

Kewl, good to know. So much to learn about these cars and the enormous performance potential they have. Been doing a lot of reading and only scratched the surface. I've been reading a lot about the oil pump issues too, that's a concern altho I thot the R33 oil pump is a bit improved over the R32, but it is something I am definitely keeping in mind. Thanx for the tips!

mcfly
12-10-2009, 06:42 PM
The pump is not improved, just the oil drive was widened to 25mm from 10 mm.

Allan74
12-10-2009, 06:49 PM
Exactly. You will have the good crankshaft with widened drive, but still the same old OEM Oil pump.

definetly keep the IC..i was gonna get one for my lil guy but had a bit of problems finding one for a decent price....bring out to skywest if you arent in the middle of a build...i'll eventually get a gtr but not till the 98's come out, i want the most recent gtr non r34 lol im weird

ColinR33
01-03-2010, 01:55 PM
Yah, the more I read the more I learn, stock IC will stay, probably gonna work on reliability things the first year (timing belt, tensioner, water pump, oil pump etc....)I want it relaible and only looking at 350-400 whp or so. Got a spreadsheet going to track all the stuff.

A little late posting new pics up, some of you might have seen on other forums. It was absolutley filthy when it first arrived
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/IMG_1181.jpg
But with a wash, a few clay bars and elbow grease, followed by wax, she was looking pretty good....

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/IMG_0705.jpg
Time to do a bit of work on the interior, the hand brake boot and shifter were well worn...
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/DSC00013.jpg
So I installed new ones from TopGaiters in the UK - $30 shipped! Big improvement.

And time to fix up that nasty drivers side pull/window switch panel, scratched and wrinkly and soft like solvent had been put on it, kept putting black marks on my pants...

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/DSC00014.jpg
So I pullled it out and cleaned it off and painted it satin black, Krylon plastic paint, much better!

Gonna do the shift surround and center stack as well, winter project.

Anybody heard of Racing Gear? From Tokico?
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/IMG_1197.jpg

Got some bodywork to do on the front lip and bumper, they damn near ripped it off the car loading it onto the boat :-( - another winter project.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/IMG_1191.jpg
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyrine/IMG_1192.jpg

Did the timing belt, tensioners and water pump, found a new oil pump, looks OEM. Gonna go slow for the first year, maybe try to get some Z32 MAF's and A'Pexi intake to replace the mushrooms o' death. Minor fixup stuff over the winter, probably start more serious stuff next year, I just want to enjoy it for now!

Two Blitz blowoff valves!
and a blocked off recirc pipe
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/Skyline/IMG_1590.jpg
Now, being a newb, are these good to keep atmospheric? Don't know how long they've been on, how old they are, should I bother taking them out and cleaning/testing?

Zacho
09-18-2010, 11:31 AM
I saw your lip paint, did you do that yourself? It looks 100000x better and looks really well done.

Atmos BOV's on a MAF'd car can cause some issues. The MAF will tell the ecu "X amount of air is coming in" so it will then feed the engine the corresponding amount of fuel, but atmos BOV's can let some of this calculated air out. This results in less air reaching the engine than calculated for (or in other words, rich). I think you'd most notice some black smoke from the exhaust when doing in boost shifts, and sometimes your idle will drop low when you push the clutch in coming up to a red light.

I do think that taking those apart and cleaning/inspecting those wouldn't be a bad idea though if you have the time.

ColinR33
09-18-2010, 12:00 PM
Thanks, yeah did it all myself, repairing the cracks/tears, bondo, prim and paint, practice for the rest of the bumper this winter. I was tired of the beat up look.

I will be taking the BOVs off and cleaning/rebuildingthem this winter.

Hopefully I will be upgrading to a new standalone ECU with MAPs this winter as well. The shopping has begun...

09-18-2010, 12:13 PM
atmospehere bov's on a gtr work fine. I have never had an issue. If they aren't broken just leave them on there, cleaning / rebuilding means more of a chance to leak if they are good right now.

Zacho
09-18-2010, 01:19 PM
What method did you use? I've got a lip that needs paint but don't want to spend the money on getting it done by a shop for something that small.

Paint matched spray cans or...?

ColinR33
09-18-2010, 03:50 PM
Paint match spray cans for now, once I get the whole bumper done I will do it all with a spary gun in the shop. Paint + bondo + repair kit for the tears/cracks <$100. Shop wanted $800 to fix, and a new lip is $400 + shipping, and then I still have to get it painted. If I had more time this fall I would have wetsanded more between coats, but its good enuf for now. Got too cold for backyard painting and the shop at work is too busy now.

ColinR33

So started on my first winter work, CF wrapping the dash (got a sheet of the CF Vinyl for Carbon Fiber Gear). First was to get the crappy rubber junk off - goo-gone and a scotch brite pad got it off...
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/IMG_1636.jpg
Made sure it was nice and clean and started the wrap.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/IMG_1637.jpg
About 1.5-2 hrs of work and it is done!
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/IMG_1640.jpg
The stuff is very forgiving, a little tricky in some areas but considering it was the first time it turned out pretty good I think. Gotta do the shift surround and a few other bits now!

ColinR33

So here it is (temporarily) re-installed. I made one boo-boo. The weave is running in a different direction on the shift surround. Wifey thinks it is a nice contrast, but I'm thinking I should re-do it to match the direction on the upper portion. Whaddya guys think? Either that or re-do the ashtray cover to match the bottom section, and maybe re-do the little cover beside the interior temperature sendor grille to match better.

Really liking this R33, tasteful mods in my mind and very nice results, now i want to wrap my dash :P and not to make you more work but i would be re-doing the lower piece to match the top (still looks good tho) im just that finicky when it comes to my own stuff

oh and just curious, what size sheet did you need to cover it all?

ColinR33
03-13-2011, 03:08 PM
I ordered a 2' x 4' or so sheet, lots left over to do other bits.

Other updates since it has been a while:
- sent cam covers, coil pack cover and TB cover off for powdercoating - black crinkle finish, new R34 garnish for coil pack cover
- sent new headers and downpipes off for ceramicoating
-in process of removing stock turbos, I have R34 N1 turbos to put in (anyone in Edmonton that has removed stock turbos with motor in? I could use some tips! it is a royal pain in the arse!)
- Project Kics wheel spacers, Apexi intake, oil filter relocate kit all received and in process of install
- ViPec ECU ordered
- polished intake pipes

Zacho
03-14-2011, 06:19 PM
Nice choice on the ECU.

I personally like how the CF angles meet. I'd leave it, but thats my opinion of course.

ColinR33
03-16-2011, 05:34 PM
I'm going to leave the bottom section as is, just re-do the ashtray cover to line up.

Got the front turbo out! On to the back...

ColinR33
03-20-2011, 11:59 AM
Got the turbos out, took about 6-8 hours of fiddling and cursing all told. Didn't need all that skin either.
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/keych/IMG_1734.jpg
Gonna start cleaning and transfering all the oil and cooling lines, hardware etc., coatings should be done soon, then re-install everything. Turbos, manifolds and downpipes up for sale - see FS thread.

Pretty darn good for essentially just upgarded turbos with intakes. Drive back to Edmonton was fun, all I can say is WOW, have never driven anything like that before except my bosses tweaked Shelby. Should be good for a couple years before upgrading fuel pump, injectors, intercooler etc and up the boost a few psi...
