DIY snapped manifold stud removal

I didnt read the whole thing but I wish I had seen this about 3 months ago when I paid a machinist to remove 3 sheered studs for $30 each lol

It was $90 for 3 to be removed. I thought that was very fair as I wasnt willing to risk messing up and then having that same shop charge me huge amounts to fix my cheapness lol
You could find a new head for less than $1200 haha

Yeah your right the cheapest I found was £800 about $1200 all in ie it comes back fixed.

I wasnt going to pay that as as you quite rightly said i could have got a new head for that.

So thought me and my dad could do this. Bought the whole kit for less then $300 I replaced everything no point doing half a job, even yokes and bolts and the copper washers on the turbo feeds and done it over a weekend.

Best feeling in the world when its all put back together and you turn it over and it purrs like a kitten.

Nice article, yeh I've done a few with easy outs before, but recently had a real difficult one. Using the freeze spray stuff is a great idea though, I didn't think of that. Makes sense... as things shrink when they get colder (usually)

I always use heat and the red rust check. Works every time.

i paid my machinist 30 dollars with a 20$ tip because a) he came to me i didnt have to take it to him and b) he drives a ram 3500 and i told him it was for gas and beer since he saved me such a hassle 6 removed bolts for 20$ aint bad stock bolts must have sheered in shipping or something as they were still there jsut broken in the non threaded bit

Ezi-outs belong in the bin, they cause more problems than they're worth.
This is the correct tool:

A combination of the right tools, left hand drill bits and accurate centre punching/drilling will get out most snapped studs. Some will simply come out on the end of the left hand drill bit. Easy peasy.
For the rest, MIG on a suitable sized washer to the remains of the stud. You'll get a few good hits with a MIG.
Then MIG a nut to that washer and simply unscrew.
The heat from the MIG will loosen things up.
